How could bloody Geelong afford this??!!

Are they paying players with cash in brown paper bags or buying them farms? 🤔

I've said it before, and I will say it again. Something is rotten at Geelong and in the coming years something will come out about salary rorting. You will not convince me they are not cheating. Eventually ex an player will spill with a grievance.

Oh I’m sorry I wasn’t aware that all player contracts are unalterable and fully binding and that players are no longer allowed to leave for other clubs mid contract. That’s a new situation in the AFL I wasn’t aware of thanks for the update.

Who’s the last player who signed a contract and only months later, requested a trade? Serious question, not being facetious.

Okay Bali, it's time to pull your head in. Every time anyone disagrees with you you get into the snarky whiny 'ooh, well, aren't you a big boy' talk and it is both bringing down the tone of the forum and crowding the screen space.

About ten years ago Demonland slumped badly because a few people were teeing off at each other constantly and derailing whole threads with their petty snarks. Those of us who have been around would have no interest in seeing that tone creeping back in.

Like you, those people also mixed in valid points of discussion and had interesting things to say, but I can't remember what any of it was because it was drowned out by just this kind of childish thin-skinned snot-flicking.

You're bringing down the vibe.

Is there a way to see a posters name change history?

I think Ollie is done anyway. Too many years of bash and crash and finds it hard to stay injury free.

Could imagine why Port don't want to pay him big bucks any more.

sure, make your point, however misguided. You don't have to play the victim and complain if people don't agree

Casboult will be 34 by round 1. A terrible option, we would not even consider

I'm going to go into bat for Bali here. I don't actually hate the Casboult suggestion.

Why? Well yes, he's 34 next year, but we're not necessarily looking for our future ruck prospect. We're looking for decent back up for Max for the next 2 years if required.

Casboult's output the last 2 seasons has been solid up in GC. And while yes he'd well and truly be finished after a maximum of 2 years. In theory in an ideal world one of Verrell or Farris-White would have come on by then.

Also keep in mind do we really want a genuine ruck (eg Preuss)? If they're not going to play in the seniors every week. Where would Preuss play at Casey while we're also trying to develop Verrell and Farris-White? It's food for thought.

So IMO we need someone who can play somewhere other than ruck while at Casey. But can play ruck if called upon. Tim O'Brien is one of the only other cheap options I see out there at the moment.

Dom Tyson is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Re-signed with the Giants in season before being traded to us. 10 years ago.

cheers mate. appreciate the post

imo he is not a ruck. maybe decent 2nd ruck but certainly no cover for Gawn

if we take a risk on someone for this role i’d go for someone younger

but who knows

unless Wines was injured this year he looked cooked. Port desperately needed leadership in finals and he offered little. wouldn’t be surprised if Port tried to get something for him

With us potentially loosing:

Jordon, Grundy, Hibbard, D. Smith, Dunstan

Potentially:  Harmes, Brown*, Melksham, Tomlinson

That's at least 5-6 list spots which is a lot, I'd expect us to grab a couple of delisted free agents somewhere.

*I Expect Brown to stay contracted next yr but possibly as a AFLW coach.  If his knee is rooted

Wines was injured for a fair chunk of the pre season. He’s a player who needs a good pre season behind him

Sounds like salary cap rorting to me.

It's outside the box but i'd be using Joel Smith as our second string ruck/forward, his marking around the ground would be a weapon, he gives us another midfielder at ground level and is just tall enough that with his leap he can compete in the ruck

Van Rooyen, Petty and TMac all have the ability to take the ruck minutes when Max is off. But the main issue is finding a decent backup if he gets injured.

I think this will be hard to find because no decent ruckman wants to sit in the VFL. At least using an option like Casboult or Chol in that role means they could also be selected as a ruck/forward.

No way I would use Petty in the ruck with his foot problem history.

Tom Mac looks cooked.

We shouldn’t be destroying JVR and risking injury, he should concentrate on his forward craft.

Geelong have probably put a down-payment on a nice little Bellarine vinyard for Ollie. Look out for the Wines Wine label

These are all good points, which is why I am in favour of us going for a forward/ruck like Chol or Casboult, who could play as second ruck or fill in if Gawn gets injured.

We will definitely get help for Max, what we don’t know atm is who.

We know it has to be a mature body and a player who is prepared to play 2nd fiddle.

It will be either a ruckman from another club, who might currently be 3rd in line, or a player from a lesser league, who will cope physically.

If it’s someone in their early 20’s, they will have a chance of staying on with Verall and FW, if he is still with us, in years to come.

So the decision is probably a player who will only be around a couple of years and we then draft another young ruckman, or a Matt Flynn type who can play a number of years.

The best ruckman in the GF, is a former Casey player btw.

You have quite the wit. You should consider stand up.

You can't buy me with flattery, $10 though and I'm all yours.

I was going to start a whole new topic but I'll just post it here.

From most important needs we need to address? What are our key needs to get us over the line for a Premiership/s in the next 2-3 years?

1. Key Power Forward (clunking mark forward) (Trading)

2. Young gun skillful midfielder (Draft) Top pick

3. 2nd Ruck/Forward who can play forward (Trading)

4. Fast Small crumbing forward goalsneak (Draft) 2nd rounder

This thread should hot up from monday, but it may not be great news for us.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
