Sorry Pulp you lost me right there. Then 58er doubled down and suggested you spend a long weekend with them.

I say; you need to trade up to better friends. 😄

That's a bloody good draw - from a financial perspective, fan perspective- but most of all in terms of who we play.

Massive we play roos and hawks x 2. That's 4 wins banked. And of the top teams, we only play the cats and pies once.

Swans twice is tough, but happy to be playing lions twice given how well we match up against them.

Crucially our run home is not the issue it was last season.

Not concerned about having 3 tough games(Freo, Carlton, Pies) leading up to the bye and another tough one(Cats) after?

Or do you feel we would have our loading period prior to that?

I notice we have another very short break during the Bye. (10 days)

There are 5 games that are money earners plus Lions and early in season Swans should be good also 40,000 plus. Others should be 60,000 to 75,000 vs Pies Blues and Tigers. Remember we still make $500/750,000 (not sure) for NT Alice vs GWS game.

I agree. I think given the financial situation of the club currently they’d be really happy with the fixture in 2023.

Now we all just need to buy memberships and show up!

Draw difficulty

The top finishing team from the 2022 season (Geelong) is assigned 18 points. Moving down the table, each team is then assigned one less point with the team that finished last worth 1 point.

Each teams matchups for the season are then combined, with the opponents points tallied. The tally shows which team has the most difficult draw based on how well teams performed last year.

Port Adelaide 228

Sydney 226

Brisbane 225

Fremantle 223

Richmond 222

Western Bulldogs 221

Geelong 221

Hawthorn 220

GWS Giants 220

Gold Coast 218

North Melbourne 215

West Coast 215

Essendon 214

Collingwood 214

Carlton 214

Adelaide 214

Melbourne 212

St Kilda 211

Funny you should say that - yes i am concerned about that block of games, becuase our training program will likely be almost the same as in 2020, 21 and 22.

Will not be surprised if we drop 3 of those 4 games. In fact i could see us mirroring last years run up to the post by round - unbeaten, then drop games that on paper we should be winning.

The difference is the final stretch of games will likely be much less difficult and draining

Not worried about how hard or soft the fixture might be at this point in time. As long as everyone at the club has the resolve to atone for our disappointing 2022 finals series I’ll be happy.

The AFL has given us the opportunity to come face to face with that reality almost immediately by pitting us against the Lions and Swans in Rounds 2 & 3 and let’s not forget that the Bulldogs got us in Round 19.

So we start the season facing three teams that beat us last time up.

Hopefully Trac won't be playing with a broken leg this year will be helpful.

However, IMO the tough parts of our Draw give us an opportunity - if good enough - to shape the 8 and put a buffer between us and Lions, Tiges , Blues etc.  Opposition teams won't be happy fronting this list in 2023.

Glass half full I reckon.

It’s a much better fixture than last year but FFS Geelong in Geelong. How do we agree to this BS every year????

Not sure that we agree, but our disagreement has far lower interest from AFL  to Richmond Carlton Colonwood and EssUndone.

For anyone interested in who we will play during our loading period it looks like Port away, Dockers, Carlton, Collingwood then Geelong in Moggydishu.

I guess the “loading period” time frame is totally in the capable hands of our training staff.

Never count your chickens before they are roasted.  Likely wins yes, banked no.

If it’s all the same to you Jontee, could you please change that word back to “hatched”????

My girls (beloved pet chickens) are sure to be offended. And yes, they read DL every day.

Sorry WCW, but I'm actually so happy to finally have a game in Sydney since I'm NSW based!  It means at least one guaranteed game I'll see in person 😊

I live here so it’s a win for family, especially after no Sydney game last year.

Oh, I’m happy that you guys and other NSW Dees fans get to attend a game. It’s just that it’s the final H&A game.

The AFL on Sunday confirmed it had adjusted the weighted rule to accommodate the extra round which means each club plays double-up games against six teams (instead of five) in 2023.

The league also confirmed there would be a pre-finals bye on September 2-3 next year, despite opposition from top-four clubs that it advantages teams in the lower part of the eight.

With regards to the Anzac Eve game, is that ticketed differently due to the nature of the game? I’ve never been and am looking to go next year.

Thanks

Regular home game. If you have set seats you sit in your regular seat. General admin Ticketing should be the same as any other round.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
