Assume the ride is out of commission this weekend?

People surely want Freo to win so we can go ahead of Brisbane on the ladder....right?

Perhaps a 1 point win to Lions and us smashing Roos and us then winning our last three games would be the perfect result.

Lions can then lose to the Pies at the G and they are a game and % behind us.

Nah, we will win our last four and pass lions the lions on percentage - even if they beat Freo and happen to beat the pies at Marvel (which i think they may well do).

What we need is a high scoring bruising, niggly encounter that the lions win by a point. Though i'd take a draw.

And i wouldn't mind Zorko getting weeks for hitting however tags Neale out of the game and/or gets into his face all game about being a loud mouthed, whining thug.

The Freo Lions game is late Sunday arvo in Perth, which means a late flight out of Perth for the the lions and players back in their own beds at 3am on the Monday.

The Lions play the crows at the gabba on the following Saturday, so a six day break. They are favs for that game, but the Crows, who have a 7 day break, won't be easy to beat.

Take your point, particularly your last one in regards to Adelaide possibly beating Brisbane on a 6 day break coming back from Perth.

However, I'd much rather Brisbane lose this week irrespective of Freo's draft pick standing. I really don't want us to get into the scenario where a random Charlie Cameron goal in the last quarter of round 24 knocks us out of the top 2 on percentage. Best to keep it simple and maintain a 1 game buffer on them if at all possible rather than scoreboard watching for the last 3 weeks.

That might keep us winning games that scoreboard watching…

I want ND4. I also want to finish 2nd, but that is entirely within our grasp - If we win our remaining games- which we should - we will finish 2nd. Regardless what Freo does.

So go the Lions and Power when they are in Perth!

Alright. Let's compromise.

A draw for the lions.

And Port get smashed by the cats and the 75% of the footy media air time is absorbed with questions like how much impact did the Allir stuff have, are port unravelling, will Kenny now nor get resigned, etc etc.

This thread should of been shutdown. It could end up being immaterial where Freo finish...15 ,14, 13 or 12th.

North is lobbying for priority picks so theyll likely pinch a player we wanted. And what about the Eagles??

Atleast Norff is likely to put the 'cue in the rack' after half time. They certainly wouldnt want to beat 4th on the ladder and lose their priority pick.

I saw Jon Ralph grade the Luke Jackson trade as an A+ for Fremantle. Absolutely ludicrous. Dogga is an absolute gun, no qualms about that, but virtually no player in the league is worth pick 4, 15 and 23. You could trade for two stars and an excellent role player with that draft capital!

Wait until we turn pick 4 into Reid and Jefferson kicks 4 on debut

The game is at Marvel and even though it’s 2 weeks away I think the Lions will be a massive chance.

Absolutely.

But on top of that I want GC to beat Adelaide so there is some kind of buffer above Freo.

Also so GC’s pick slides up to 6 or 7, making it more realistic for us to attain.

Exactly.

All for attainment.

C+ is probably more accurate.

I stopped reading at “Jon Ralph.”

Seriously, that’s like Port’s haul of Rozee, Butters & Duursma in one fell swoop.

Or even our own Jackson, Pickett & Rivers.

Doesn't change the fact freo paid way overs, particularly given it might end up result in Darcy leaving, but not in their worst nightmares would have they expected to be giving up early first and second rounders.

Saw a post on another channel during the week reflecting back on the Lever trade that we gave up 2 first rounders for and got back pick 35, which turned into Harry Petty (can just see the bounce crew doing their numerology thing on that).  The two first rounders ended up at Carlton through some on trade for someone and they got players who I forget, because I'm assuming they are just average, not great footballers.

I think we won the Lever trade even though we gave up two first rounders and Freo may still win this one.  Unless we can turn pick 4 into Reid and/or JT can work his magic yet again.  Give me a proven gun player over picks most days of the week, but all the same I'm also hoping our footy department and JT can spin their magic.  The most valuable part for us is Freo's low finish giving us an oppertunity to top up and keep building for sustained sucess while we finish higher up the ladder in premiership competition mode.

I think Carlton used one of those picks on O'Brien who was delisted to a rookie, reinstated and is apparently on the outer.  I have almost total faith in our recruiting team, and as you said let them do their magic.

At the time of the trade we all wanted more. It's only overs now because of their terrible season this year.
None of us forecasted that a top 10 pick would land in our laps this year.

Of course we wanted more.

But for a club that is still in the development phase giving up your first and second rounder for one player - even if you finish top 8 as they surely would have expected - creates challenges in terms of bringing in multiple quality young players though the draft.

Or use them to target a need to trade  - for example a really good inside mid that they so badly need.

Look, of course I'm hoping for 4 Melbourne wins, but any loss for Brisbane & Port gives us wriggle room in case we lose against Carlton or the Swans. Freo maybe going up a ladder position or 2 is much less important than Melbourne finishing 2nd. We definitely don't need a draw. That would put Brisbane at a point where percentage would be irrelevant both for them and Freo. Assuming Melbourne make up the percentage differential against Brisbane (likely I think) a draw is essentially a win for both Brisbane and Fremantle (because Freo have an insurmountable percentage differential below every team above them). A worst case scenario.

The word is have, not of. Now I know you probably don't care that you can't spell but it's never too (or should that be to, two 😀?) late to learn.

More importantly, I can't understand your logic. Firstly you say it's immaterial where Freo finish even though that translates into anywhere between draft picks 4 & 7. So, yes it's possible that North will get a free agency compensation pick for Ben McKay and/or a priority pick, and of course there's a likely Gold Coast Northern Academy pick above 4. Surely that makes it even more important that we get as high a draft pick as we can from Freo. 4 could become 7,  7 could become 10.

North won't be tanking against Melbourne to get a priority puck. There's's no simple formula any more. I'm sure they're more than capable of losing without any help from AFL systems.

This has been done to death but absolutely no-one thought Freo were going to finish 15th in 2023 when this deal was done. So any commentary on the deal should substitute 4 & 23 for something more realistic as a prediction at the time the trade was done.

Pick 3 is on!

Freo have Lions, WC, Port, Hawks

They need to lose all of them. 3/4 is likely but boy wouldn’t a derby loss be fantastic.

The Hawks have Doggies, Dees and Freo. If they win 2/3 or even 3/3 (No!!!), Freo drop to 3rd last!

The Hawks will bully the Doggies next week and I predict another upset, they’ll run out of legs against us by then rebound to overtake Freo on the ladder in the final round!

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
