Can someone please explain to me why Freo beating Essendon is a bad thing, considering we now have a game and percentage break on a top 4 aspirant in Essendon.

I just don’t understand why sliding 2 or 3 positions up the draft is more of a priority than keeping top 4 aspirants at bay.

And Luke Jackson has been phenomenal tonight (sadly)

Everything will be fine next week if Swans beat the Cats and Freo losses against Bulldogs.

Both are huge possibilities. I think Draper wasn't playing last night for Essendon. Tim English will be a hard proposition for the Freo duo.

It’s not that it’s a bad thing, but I’d rather back ourselves to make the top 4n merit and by the fact that we are playing good football. Essendon losing means less pressure on the players and I think more pressure might help them get going.

The reason I want a Freo to lose is cos I do want a better pick in what’s a shallow draft for talent they believe to be top 10

and I reeeeeaaaaaallllllyyyyyyyy want Peter Bell to cop [censored] for the trade, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem likely.

Whilst I admire our desire to bring in new talent: right here and now we have the most talented list in my long memory. I want us to contend this year win it. Agree in a fair world we can hope Freo fail and get us a more deserving pick, but that wont help us this year and I don't expect a top 10 draft pick to make the difference to our flag hopes over the next 2 seasons (unless his name is Josh Daicos).

True, but we also want to be competitive in the long run. That's why it's important we get properly compensated for the number 6 who shall not be named.

I'm mildly annoyed because this round was one of those 'stars align' possibilities where if all the results went the right way our two picks from Freo could have improved three places. But by the time Richmond finished their nose-dive and the Swans and Cats both turned their percentage advantage to a moot point, it is all looking average.

It's fine, but also, come on Doggies!

Plus, Freo still have a very tough fixture to finish the season so there's still plenty of hope.

Also, after close investigation I can confirm that Luke Jackson stole Kade Chandler's mojo. Chandler was gunning it up to round 8 while Jackson was very flat, and then from exactly round 8 on Chandler has been struggling to hit the scoreboard while Jackson has been going berserk.

Hopefully Jackson's slow start today bodes well for Chandler tomorrow.

Oath.

Cannot believeee people are riding on the hope of other teams falling around us.

We will dictate our position by wins and losses. And at the moment, we look a mile off a top four side.

We should be riding a Freo loss every game, regardless of who they play.

10 days before this post we beat the arousal specialists, Collingwood, and suddenly we look a mile off top 4?

You like your hyperbole, don't you, Steve?

Agree with the sentiment of not relying on others around us to make the top 4, but I'd much prefer less pressure on us heading into the last month of the H&A season because teams below us have dropped games and can't catch us.

Geelong won the flag last year in large part because they were able to manage players and had a very soft fixture at home leading into the finals series. Their last 4 games being the Bulldogs and St Kilda at Geelong, followed by the Suns away and then West Coast down at Geelong. A dream run. I'd prefer that into the final series personally, but all of this is irrelevant as I think we'll make top 4 and if we get going, will finish top 2.

Little impact today. 1 mark. 1 hit out. 4 handpasses of which 50% at least were ineffective, 3 kicks and 3 spectacular but unsuccessful marking attempts.

For the here and now it’s better if Freo win today.

The way we’ve been playing since round  10 we need all the breathing space we can get in respect of top 4 and sides 5th-8th.

I don’t understand the obsession with draft picks at round 16.

A couple of points here...

The first it's not about draft picks at round 16.

It's about what we have to deal with at the end of the season and every Freo loss is a good one for us.

The second point is, if we can't retain a top 4 slot from here without relying on other teams losing then it's no point us getting it. If someone overtakes us then we are not playing well enough to have an impact this season.

We don't need a breathing space, we need to have a strong run into the finals from here on to be a threat.

Last season we held onto a top 2 spot by default and see where that got us. Out in straight sets.

What you're posturing is another top 4 finish but again by default.

If that happens we will get the same result as last year...out in straight sets.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
