This is an interesting listen. Lyon gives his side of the story on leaving The Aints

What a long winded convoluted explanation. Still don't understand what he said. Mainly waffle.

This is the video I mentioned this morning. I watched it during Lockdown.
Gives an excellent account of How and Why The Saints are what they are.
Ratten is an absolute Scapegoat in this and I hope he gets every cent of that Contract Money.

disgraceful Governance

Mind you, WUL, the Demons notion of Governance left a wee bit to be desired as well from 1965 until 2016...

Looking more and more like number 2, with lyon being the coach.

Which is appropriate, given it is a [censored] thing to do.

If Lyon gets the gig, it worth remembering that he shafted the saints when he got tbe dockers gig.

And in doing so Harvey was unceremoniously and unexpectedly sacked as a result.

So he will have been involved in ruining the career of two senior coaches.

After listening to the SEN segment above, it seems Lyon was not the shafted one...Just more of St Kilda's notion of how not to go about appointing coaches, witness Watson, Blight, Thomas etc etc

I predict Lyon will fail at the Saints this time around. The comp has moved on from his game style

What is more scary is he finds a way to invent a new turgid defensive style that shuts down a game that has been much more attacking and fun to watch recently, a'la us, pies, cats, tiges, freo etc... that would be the true disaster.

Yes indeed it did, but never as bad as the Saints

We had a history that was envious, they have never got near that

Agreed. But the Saints were just too slow to make an agreement

I doubt if any on the Saints Board have any faith at all.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t Lethlean “have a bit of history” at another club or at AFL HQ?

There's something about the look in his face that doesn't make me feel comfortable.

FMD @Anti-Saint. What rock are you living under Bro? The Deez have been completely phukkkkced by unfair VFL/AFL decisions for the best part of 60 years. And 26 days again Patrick Chittts won a Brownlow. Nuff said.

u r right @Queanbeyan Demon - VFL allowed Dump Rd on to our ground and then The Filth followed w/o compensation

Can anyone, particularly AFL players many of whom, though exceptionally talented in the game, may not be in possession  of the highest intellects,  understand anything that emanates from the oral orifice of the said Mr Lyon?

Quite funny really. He just dribbled on in incoherent garbage.

He could have simply said, he offered to finish the last year of his contract with the Saints, but they said no and didn’t offer him any longer and Freo offered him a contract, so he left.

His ramblings are as bad if not worse than Robbo and I never thought that was possible.

What orifice are we talking about? OOOps, oral, and how can we tell the difference

I was specifically specific, though there may in fact be very little difference in the comprehensibility from what comes the alternative orifice in Ross' case.

You have to feel sorry for Brett Ratten.  He's had a tough week and it isn't getting any better.

According to Channel 9, he's now also been sacked by Essendon.

I'd also argue that the unlucky bounce would have mattered less if St Kilda were up by 10 goals, like we were.

Same winning  percentage as Goodwin at 57% and more Grand Finals  which was obviously  the point I was responding to.

You are probably one of the blokes who think Geelong were " losers" for only  being perpetual contenders after they had their first Dynasty and before this next one.

Hilarious

Much more interesting pressers from Lyon (and Scott) as  well for anyone  with a sense of humour

How about we get our first dynasty over with, it's just begun. I note recent "dynasties" Geelong, Hawthorn and Richmond didn't win the flag in the year following their breakthrough win.

I’m no fan of Ross, but it’s funny to see posters bemoaning his defensive style when one of our own players (Langdon) said not all that long ago that we pride ourselves on making Friday night games boring to watch.

That would be right. News comes/vetted from Sydney. What would they know. At least they spelt his name right.

I am happy to be proven wrong.

Mind you I am not sure those other  "dynasties " were so labelled at their first flag.

Just to be clear though I am tired of cliched insults of players from other Clubs you guys would all worship if the were in red and blue and I rather hope Lyon goes to the Saints so Ooze doesn't have to start at a basket case in Moorabin.

Choco Williams as well for that matter.

OK, you've gone with that one.  I picked you as more "they're finally doing what I've been saying all along" kind of guy.

Of course one could mount an argument the the Cats " dynasty" hasn't so much as begun as it hasn't actually finished

What seems to have been missed in these discussion is the admission by Bassat and co (is he really the CEO of Seek the employment people?) that they had not provided the best environment that they could for Ratten  to be able to excel eg. poor drafting, poor trading, poor back office, poor everything else. What a joke they are. Even worse than we were. At least we tried, albeit without wit or wherewithal.

How was he expected to perform well if the club could not perform first? Send the sainters to Tasmania until they show they are worthy of our respect. Better still, exile them to Tasmania forever. They give Victorian clubs a bad name.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
