I hope this isn't true,  Schache isn't even a VFL level player

If we're losing Weideman then we need some form of forward tall depth.

Id prefer a speculative draft than him.

Whilst I agree we need another tall,  we're not as bad off as people think.

We still have JVR and Tommo (who can play def and push Petty fwd).

I do think we need another ruck though,  even if it's from the state levels

Don't mind it.

If Weed is leaving we need depth and has still got a lot of time on his side.

I know he's shown diddly squat so far but could be a free hit and depth.

We'd be paying very little for him.

Yes but why replace Weideman with someone 10 times less capable? It's not like Weideman is taking up a heap of cap space.

Sobering thought for those considering trading up in the draft to get a 'promising' tall...Josh Schache, pick 2 in the 2015 draft.

The Josh Bruce rumour was a smokescreen. We were after the "big fish" Schache the whole time.

10 times less capable ?

One couldn't split their careers to date.

I find your reasoning Schache at best…

In fairness I would say Schache has shown more at AFL level then Weid has and even at junior level Schache was more advanced then Weid.

Kicked 24 goals off 14 games back in 2018.

Either way, I understand your point but I think it's on point in terms of replacing 1 for 1.

Some decisions that clubs make really make you think they dont quite get it. This is ridiculous and would be a backwards step.

No issue if he arrives for nothing, gets paid KFC wages, and is happy to sit behind the 'break in case of emergency' glass at Casey.

I would say it is more the supporters don't get it.

But that's the thing. Weid is contracted, so we don't have to trade him. At least Weid showed that he was competitive as a ruckman at VFL level.

I haven't seen anything of Schache as a 2nd ruckman. But I would have thought a depth ruckman in Weid is more important than a depth forward/backman in Schache.

We seem to be downgrading this trade period.

Out Weed

In poorer version of Weed Josh  Schache

Out Jackson

In pick 13 and future picks

As a replacement for Weideman i think this actually pretty sound.   He is a 3rd ruck back up.  May just take his chance at a new club, who knows!?  It is a free stab, at a talented tall, who will come cheap, who may surprise.  If it happens hopefully plays his best footy with us!

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
