I’m glad all the focus will now go into Geelong given how convincing they have been. The odds from Rd 1, the pressure and scrutiny on every loss, the footy experts try to find a reason why you are not up to it. The leaked press about something so insignificant but front page worthy and that every team will now hunt you and be the team to beat the premiers - especially at their home ground.

Glad we won’t have that on us and we can go about our business.

Pretty horrible take. If you saw us earlier in the year you could see that we were the hot team in the year. One connection was on point and we didn't see any of the issues that we had later in the year. I think that the team went into the preseason hard and they were ready for the start of the year. I think that our start of the year was a bit of a false prophecy for us.

Unfortunately an AFL season is a long one and it's challenging to remain in the same mindset the whole year. Throughout the middle of the year, our confidence suffered. Maybe through injuries, maybe playing better teams, maybe it was the thought that the start of the year was too easy and it would come to us. Our connection was not on point. When we streamed forward we were losing the ball. Stuffing up 100% goals.

Hopefully, we will learn from this.

The beginning of our downfall was when we started to choose to manage and absorb opposition pressure over applying our own in games

Not my recollection at all. The cup toured around with club reps. Goody and co have done numerous sports nights etc, but that's standard fare during any season. Hardly think that would have any impact on their 2022 performance.

My recollection is based on events like the one below and numerous others like it.

Note the date,     22nd/24th of JANUARY ,        4 MONTHS after the GF.

Were you aware of these events ?

Yes mate, those kind of nights run for most of the year. Are you aware of "That's Good For Footy" etc? Every year they're on.

Those nights you talk of , most likely wouldn’t be celebrating a recent premiership.
Are you saying that it’s OK for players to continue the celebrating right through 2022 ?

If so, would you still argue that would not have had an negative affect on the 2022 season ?

So when is the honeymoon over and it’s time to return to work ( after a Premiership ) ?

This will be my last reply ok, you're just going around in circles with this narrative you've created in your mind.

These footy nights are completely normal and happen every year. Given we were reigning premiers I'm sure the players involved talked about winning a flag.

I have seen absolutely no evidence of this 'celebrating right through 2022' by the players or coaches that you seem to think happened and given Petracca said they trained the hardest they ever had and we started the year 10-0 I see absolutely no evidence to back up any of your claims, in fact quite the opposite.

You're welcome to continue with the old 'drank their bathwater'/'didn't put in the effort'/'weren't hungry enough' type stuff if that's as deep as you want to dig into the season. It's not where it's at for mine though. Cheers.

Let’s hope the review highlights why they lost 7 games in the same way, in particular the 2nd half fade-outs… Trak said they trained hard yet their fade-outs suggest either fitness or method

Listening to Trac on 360 seemed as though the players may have taken their season for granted??

That's not really what I took any of that as, at all.

Seemed more like he was saying they took the good times last year for granted, not this season. He said they trained harder than ever this year - not something you'd do/say if you were taking the season for granted.

Think you're trying to create something that isn't there.

When asked by Robbo whether we had backed off at all after the GF my take was that, if anything, training went up a level.

Could this be an indicator/hint that we trained too hard, too early?

This would make sense given our 1st half of season vs 2nd half (plus awful finals result) discrepancy / fadeouts.

Your “last reply”,  Thank God.

Your wish is my command YOUR LORD.

Self proclaimed “LORD”

Perhaps if I may respectfully suggest Your Lord, maybe you could consider  just disagreeing with another opinion without the need to ridicule it.  We both could have saved a couple of days of sparring.

Good night,    Good bye.

We’re does Selwyn Griffiths and his fitness/conditioning coaches come into play after taking over from Burgess, surely the professionalism in this area would be to have a measured program to account for having played in a GF and longer season, though the cats played one less game than us and age demographic much older. If it’s been a balls up by them they need to move on!

I'm convinced we got "overtraining Syndrome". Our injuries around the bye [censored] with our loading program and maybe Selwyn lacked the wisdom in recognising we had to adjust on the run.

I don't doubt we trained really hard in the preseason, we looked a million bucks fitness wise in the first 10 rounds... We never faded out in the beginning, only from r11 onwards.

I didn’t get that impression at all. The boys trained really hard last Summer and they all turned up to training fit and ready to go.
This year we had an unsettled backline all year (Salem, Hibbo and Petty all missed large chunks of the year) Our CHF went down and did not return

Sydney and Jeelong have had luck on their side with injuries this year.
We had it in’21

I have never questioned the committment of the players

Not a good year also for Jake L he kept getting "ankle issues in the play early in the first quarter" but stayed on the ground snd after the bye always was still selected! Form did suffer IMHO.

I don't much care if Trac is on 360 although he's not particularly interesting

I don't much care if he does cheap advertising though I prefer not to publicly  single out players over the team.

What irks me is his spinning the ball as he runs in to miss shots at the goal.

As best as I can tell none of the leading  goal kickers do it and thus it maybe relevant

Perhaps. But AFL players are monitored to within an inch of their lives with any amount of fitness technology, and signs of over-training are pretty easy to pick up.

More likely it's because of what Gawn spoke about post-elimination, that 2021 just rolled into 2022 without much of a break. This started to catch up with the players mid-season. Even seeing more injuries is an indication that the players were just cooked. (OK, not impact injuries ...)

One of the reasons winning back-to-back premierships is so hard to do.

I don't mind all these insights into what could/did happen during such a close hectic overlap of seasons.

We shall see this preseason how things are I hope.

Yes i hear you Bing.  Possibly an in season management issue as well plus the harder draw in the back half catching up with a few.

Reckon it all started to go pear shaped from the moment Lever took May out as well.  We lost that match and the following one against the Swans and the rot started to set in.

Then there was the knuckle sandwhich incident and a non committed fluffy season from LJ.

Bah!!

My god you're full of carp.
There were footy nights booked all over the state with 2-3 players in attendance at all of them.
To make out that this is normal stuff is just total BS.

Just admit you're wrong and shut ya mouth for once.

Quite possibly Bing.  Good points.  Back to backs aren't common as you have said.
