Schache?

Why would we give up a fringe tall for another fringe tall? Other than the contract amount. Schache isn't good enough at AFL level whereas Tomlinson is.

An agility test must have been part of his fitness test. If we can't get Tomlinson off our books, can't see us doing anything major other than getting Grundy. No chance of absorbing the Bowes contract.

Dogs probably wanted us to tip in some cash, negating the whole point, he’s on 300k more than a rookie pick who would replace him so not the difference in landing another player if we can defer for 2 years

Bulldogs defence is atrocious. Strange they couldn't take Tomlinson. Would not be surprised if we had offered to sweeten the pie with a salary subsidy of 100k but still no taker... yet

Tomlinson has 2 years to go at a media reported 500K a year. That is too much for a backup mainly playing VFL so the club would be keen to move him on and he'd be looking for options to play at AFL level.

To me he is more a 3rd tall than a key position player. Odd though that he was not tried in Tommy Mac role at some point in 2022.

The football media led by The Age is reporting two years to 2024.

BUT

The following show his contract is to 2023:

  • AFL Press Release at the time he transferred from GWS.
  • Footywire which is usually accurate.
  • The Contracts thread prepared by yours truly is almost never wrong 😉

However, if anyone can find something more reliable than the football media great but until then its best to stick with one year to the end of 2023.

I reckon one media person has said to 2024 and they have all jumped on the bandwagon!

I’d think the Dogs know their defence needs improvement but wanted us also to absorb some of the contract.  They’ll need $$$ for Lobb but send potential  Dunkley $$$ away.

They are also bringing in Liam Jones for nothing

Yeah Tommo to the Dogs is nothing. Probably a smokescreen for something else.

Maybe not. It might mean the Naughton deal was never a chance.

Or Naughton is going back to defence..

Cordy signed with Saints, could open the door for Thommo?

I actually think it closes the door on Thommo. Doubt that the Dogs will pursue him, and can't see too much interest from other clubs.

Either way, Tomlinson would be a salary dump by us, and we'd need to pay part of his salary and not expect anything in return.

Cal Twomey said Tomlinson has 2 years to go on his contract and Deledio didn't correct him so I think that sounds the case - @Lucifers Hero

They're actually in the hands of another club wanting Tomlinson, I'm sure we'd do the deal to free the cap.

Delidio has never struck me as the most intelligent bloke. It's actually in your hands Brett if you come up with a suitor for him

He is playing football during the season; if just happens to be vfl football when we have our full array of tall defenders available

Unfortunately for Adam, no other club sees him as an afl level player anymore

Thanks,

AFL press releases on trades are usually accurate.

What I think has happened is that the club and Tomlinson have quietly renegotiated his contract giving him an extra year to the 4 originally and spreading the $ a bit more.  We did that last year with Lever, Gawn and a few others.

In a way it makes Tomlinson slightly more attractive if the $ are less in the last two years not so much if we back ended it...

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
