So after much reflection, I have very little interest in this GF.

If I was to think about what is the best thing for the MFC I would say Geelong winning is.

This is a team we owned last year and they went away, licked their wounds recruited smartly and changed their game plan from the boring predictable, easy to set up against game plan they had last year. It got them close but they were found out.

Sound familiar?

We blooded 1 new young player this year for 1 game. I know that we had 9 players 22 or under to win last years GF but there was no renewal with personnel and no change whatsoever to our game plan. Boring predictable and taxing.

1. Any mystique about our much vaunted midfield was countered by many teams and is perhaps gone forever

2. Fast ball movement against us saw teams break through our impenetrable defence and avoid the intercept marking our game was built on

3. relentless pressure against us as the no 1 team saw us crumble in second halves

4. Our scoring from the back half dried up

5. Our fwd 'connection' was a disaster and nothing was done to fix it. Except moving a banged up Gawn to the fwd line which didn't work.

6. We learned nothing from our 8 defeats that were in essence identical. IN 7 of them we were ahead by at least 23 points.

7. Goodwin's mantra of not crushing teams but managing leads was a disaster once we became the worst 4th qtr team in the league bar NM and WCE.

So. A Geelong win shows what can be done by making large changes to game plan, recruiting wisely and as importantly managing workloads (which we dismally failed to do against lower sides)

And aside from that Sydney are so freaking smug, in players faces with 'toughness', pushing and shoving etc They deserve to be smacked down.

Agree with all, especially Sydney. I know most teams are unbearable after a win, but in my experience, none worse than the smug Swans supporters this year - I had a couple of run-ins after our two losses, and I was just walking along minding my own business. (Maybe it was my big guns that provoked them and their insecurities...or not...)

Don’t care to watch it all I hope is that the Swans win.

God I hate the pussie cats.

The fact that 11% of people around here want Geelong to win is surprisingly high, given they're probably the most despised club on Demonland.

It’s actually a pickle because I have a major disdain for NSW but equivalently hate Geelong.

Interesting to hear Guthrie say they are really confident for the GF. Swans will now use that much like Langdons comment against the Pies. I wonder if the media will run with this as much as it did for Langdon.

Nah the Cats are alright, plenty of other teams I hate way more than them - Collingwood, Essendon, West Coast, Hawthorn for starters.

Geelong are pretty inoffensive in the scheme of things - obviously 186, getting belted on our 150th anniversary etc but I don't mind them, even if I wasn't married to a Cats supporter. They were fantastic to watch during their heyday, Scott and Dangerfield are annoying but I dislike Sydney far more with all the free hits they get.

Yep I'm with you. Apart from being a successful club that people are sick of with a slightly annoying coach and a few players I don't see much to be offended about. Give me Geelong over Collingwood any day.

I think a lot of the enmity towards Geelong is born out of jealousy at the advantages they enjoy.

There are several other teams higher on my ****list than the Cats, but I hope Sydney roll them on Saturday.

There  are a small handful of things I hate about Sydney, but I could write a thesis about the people and things I hate about Geelong.

Who we submitting in the sprint tho? Kozzy? Hunt? BBB?

Finally a good decision

Tom Papley can be bit of a flogger whereas Geelong have at least 15 of them

Hilarious wording around ‘ban’. How about ‘upon reflection, we bought into marketers spiel on the need to ‘activate’ the crowd, when obviously they didn’t need to be activated.”

Its  a game of football, not a [censored] nightclub or current day supermarket…

'Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?

After we lost, I messaged a mate and finally confirmed I would be attending his buck party on GF day.  He was a good sport about the late RSVP, thankfully!

Hawthorn has successfully pushed the GF off the media for at least the next 24 hours

I expect Geelong to win this and win well.

But if they don't, I don't think they'll win another under C Scott.

Will be very hard to for Selwood, Danger, Hawkins, Smith and any other of their pensioners going back to the well are perfect 17 weeks (round 9 - prelim) season only to lose the 2022 GF.

Should Sydney lose, the probability of them backing up and winning next year's flag is extremly low (15% since 1990) if you're a believer in history.

Its always good when an interstate team wins

Especially this year as I'm pretty jealous of Geelong fans I know being there and potetnially enjoying this in person.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
