Jesus I can deal with losing Jacko but to lose Pickett would be soul crushing.. he's one of my favourite players and he brings some genuine excitement and X factor to our team.

I mean he's still contracted for another year so we do have the upper power.

Really hope signing guys like Brayshaw to 6 year deal isn't going to hinder getting contracts sorted for the likes of Pickett.

I’d be shocked if the guy who has his jumper number and the word “loyalty” tattooed on himself would leave.

Losing him would be a disaster for the club. Hopefully this is just rubbish talk off the back of Kane Cornes pulling it out of his [censored] as an example that he admitted had no  fact to it.

The thing that worries me is if there’s a rift in the players and the culture has tanked. If we see multiple players wanting out of a premiership team that should contend for years to come, then the only possible reason is poor culture. Hopefully that’s not the case!

Just pasted this on another thread.re Kozzie........

TBH I don't want another year of Jackson like speculation.

I'm of the mind to say sign or we trade.

The kid glove treatment of Jackson got us nothing but distraction

Kozzy has had a great year and has developed nicely. still has flaws in his game and lacks defensive presence. Would hate to lose him as we would lose a major scoring avenue but it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Would demand a top 5 pick in return.

Cal Twomey stated yesterday there is zero chance Kozzie leaves Melbourne this year. Hope we can re-sign him in the off-season otherwise it will be another Jackson-like season to endure.

2 great years!  40 goals last year, 41 this year .

Would hate for him to leave us, especially the way he tackles aha

Couldn't be further from the truth. Small forwards like Kozzie impact results more than a ruckman like Jackson. It would be a disaster to lose a small forward who has kicked 40 goals in both of his full seasons.

We have 2 X Factor players in our forward line in Kozzie and Fritsch. If anything, we need a couple more who can take advantage of our midfield dominance.

Are you expecting Spargo to take up the slack?

The price of Lobb and Rioli, how will Dunkley 'domino' fall?

Stated here at around the 4.20 mark.

Didn’t think we would have a problem with players leaving since we won the premiership but it’s still happening unfortunately.

It actually really pisses me off.

Why would you want to leave our club NOW.

Gonna need our leaders to rally around him and convince him we're the place to be. Trac, Brayshaw, Viney, Gawn. Losing Jackson hurts, losing Kozzie cannot happen.

Agreed.  But who says Kozzie wants to leave?

Port Adelaide would like to recruit him but so would every other club.

I'll resist the trap of jumping at shadows unless something substantial happens.

This is why the league needs anti tampering rules. There’s no reason for Pickett to cop this speculation now and for an entire year.

Its all so Craig the Labrador Hutchinson can make money from his pitiful media empire one click at a time.

Who on earth  is Michaelangelo Leonardo Roccaceli anyway? One of the leftover ninja turtles? For all we know he’s about as well connected to the trade market as Melksham’s baby.

The stigma of changing clubs is fading, it won't be long til we're like the NBA or other leagues

No wonder 7 year deals are becoming the norm

Anti-tampering is too hard to police. Every club is guilty of it, so I don't see an issue.

It’s a meat market and is getting worse each year.

The NBA has nonsense of star players demanding trades and breaking contracts, plus teams so happy to tank.

But the one thing it does do is lock top draft picks in for 4 years and realistically 2-4 more before they talk about breaking extensions.

I’m ok with more player movement as long as it isn’t designed for tanking and super teams, but the one thing that’s way out of line at the moment is how little leverage clubs have on younger players. If they need to go home that’s ok, no issue losing Jacko  for that reason, but there shouldn’t be contract incentives that favour moving for young players.

I know Demonstone but usually where there is smoke there is 🔥and if he wants to stay then sign an extension (I think I saw somewhere that the club is trying to re-sign him but can’t remember where).

I'm starting to think that for your top 15 it's 3 year minimum deals and sign your next deal at the end of year 2 or you could be traded. The problem with the AFL system is that the player needs to consent to the trade

He’s contracted, so unless it’s an offer too good to refuse (pick 1 territory) then he ain’t leaving.

It doesn't really matter unless you demand he honours the contract which is not a great way to manage a cohesive list

It’s really not that hard. You simply stop players meeting with clubs or clubs talking about other players.

Of course they will be sniffing around with agents but the whole process is delayed if they can’t get busted meeting with or discussing rivals.

Port can GTFO

I don't think anyone is concerned about this season, it's next when he's a free agent. If they don't handle it soon it will become a headline and chip away at team morale for 12 months like Jackson did.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
