Garbage List management!

I"m surprised by it. Is only a report which means nothing " in the Hun so means even less" . Both will struggle to play regular games next year.

agree, so seems little point in re-contracting them, especially Melksham

Fair dinkum, how people could knock the Dees list management the year after winning a flag after a 57 year drought is beyond me.

Hibbo and Melksham can offer a lot for our younger brigade and could play a lot of footy at Casey. I am thinking that JVR, Howes, Chandler, Bedford, Bowey, Woewodin and whoever we bring in via trade and draft will have a big say in wether they get the chance to play many games. We really need to blood all of the above.!!

Being reported today that both Melksham and Hibberd will get another year.

If so, it reflects the ongoing ultraconservatism in our selection regimen.

Dynasties are built on continuing renewal

Very Suprising

Always feels like we never have players nominating Melbourne as their preferred club for trades.

Last one I think was BBB in 2019.

Lever, May, Langdon, Ben Brown, Dunstan. 4 were vital elements of our premiership team.

Recently, no players ever nominate Melbourne as their preferred destination, because why would they!

What about Langers?

Ok, i'll give you Langers - except for that metrosexual, no player nominated Melbourne as their preferred destination  !

Dunstan?

What? Who? Ok, except for Dunstan and the metrosexual, no player nominated Melbourne!

Lever?

Ok, ok. Except for Dunstan, the metrosexual , and Lever - NO player nominated Melbourne!

May?

Jesus!. Except for Dunstan, the metrosexual , Lever and May - NO player  nominated Melbourne!

Brown?

What? Who? Which one? Ok, except for Dunstan, the metrosexual , Lever, May and Brown x 2 - NO player  nominated Melbourne!

Tomo?

Alright, alright;  except for Dunstan, the metrosexual , Lever, May, Brown x 2 and Tomo - NO player has recently nominated Melbourne as their preferred destination!

Might be adding Grundy before too long

While last years trade period was very boring this one is shaping up to be very different. I think we will have to wait until the last day or two before Jackson deal gets done, as I think there will be a massive amount of pick swaps this year that will need to get done before the Jackson deal gets done.
Think both pick 1&2 will be traded and although we are a chance to pick up one of them it’s far more likely that we will pick up one or more of the picks they are traded for. If that is the case we could be waiting on the likes of the Rankine deal to be completed before pick swaps take place ahead of the Jackson deal.
I’m hoping that if the Jackson deal is stalling it might help us get get Grundy for less than a first round pick as the pies will need picks to get their deals done. Perhaps picks 32&41 get it done. Or if we trade Bedford whatever pick we get for him might come into the mix.

Sorry I should clarify my comment to say that it feels like no one wants to nominate for us this trade season. Still well a truely early into trade season so all being well we’ll get a few.

I was only joking, but I agree it would be great for a really good player to come our and say I want to go to the dees.

I wonder when really good players nominate a club it is code for, the club offering them a boat load of money (even though technically they can't do so whilst still contracted to another club).

For average players, it is code for, I'm not good enough to get a regular senior game at my club becauseim not tbat good.

Probably because we don't have a lot of money to throw around and because it is very difficult to get a game let alone be part of the regular 22.

Hibberd deserves an additional year

Melksham one has stumped me though

Need to see Chandler in the seniors.

Very good balance between attack and defence

In his game. I would have him in rather than melksham

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
