Would a week off be better for him and back the team in to beat the Lions without him? I don't know

Jeez no wonder he was hobbling around last night. Good luck Christian Petracca, he is a so tough.๐Ÿ˜ช๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ’•

@Webberย would probably be most qualified to give insight but my gut feel would be to give him a week off and bring in Dunstan.

Another Buddy special. If heโ€™s less than 70% fit he cant play, if he is it will need to be predominantly forward. The query will still be is a 70% fit Trac better than the next best option. A lame Trac, no JJ and possibly no Harmes likely puts Gus back to the wing leaves us thin in the middle. Weโ€™ve just need to put the best team out to win this week.

ย

Rest himโ€ฆ would prefer him to be ready to go for a prelim if we make it rather than limping through a semi and being rooted for the prelim

Hairline fracture means the bone is still stable, thus can bear weight. If he can do everything he needs without being pain inhibited, he will play Iโ€™d say. One week off wonโ€™t make enough difference to the vulnerability of the bone to bother missing. Itโ€™s all about the pain. If he canโ€™t play with the pain, then he wonโ€™t. The one risk in playing on a โ€˜vulnerableโ€™ bone (itโ€™s essentially a strut), is if he gets the wrong external contact, the bone is more likely to fracture completely. To be brutal, this would heal happily in the off-season (surgery if displaced) and be good to go in early pre-season. Tough decision, but I reckon we all know what heโ€™d want to do.ย

When did this happen? Which quarter?ย

First. It was when Franklin received a free kick. Franklin went to play on and Petracca ran him down from behind.

Petracca ran forward but as soon as he stopped running for a moment the pain kicked in and he started to hobbleย

Is there any protective gear for a cracked fibula?

Is there any vision of the incident?ย ย  And of the incident where he got the corky/contusion

Was it truly an accidental or was there an element of the Selwood 'accidental' kick to Oliver's hand about it.

Buddy also whacked Petty which brought him to his knees for a while.ย  It was a sniper 'drive-by' hit to the mid riff so not sure if he was winded or it hurt his ribs.

It looks like if Buddy can't get a kick he will make his presence felt and hurt opp players.ย  Possibly more damaging than on the scoreboard!

We were blessed last year. Everything went right. This season is the complete opposite.ย
We will be lucky not to go out in straight sets. Trac is a key player and a real finals spark for us. Even if he plays he will be way below his best.ย

Nah nothing like that. Buddy didnt even see him coming and was spewing that it wasnt a 50m penalty to him (probably should have been)

And get soft frees and 50's while he is at it.

The Tracc one was an accident and probably self inflicted.

So essentially we played with our best midfielder on one leg for the whole matchโ€ฆย

Huge impact on the end resultย

Bingo

Shin guard (ruck style) at best. Depends on the position of fracture, and legality of guard.ย

Weโ€™ve actually had a very good year injury-wise. (Total games lost to injury). Huge part of why we finished 2nd. Injuries are not the cause of our current form problems.ย

Disagree with this slightly.

We've had a decent year with games lost to injury, but that's in part due to us playing players through existing niggles. IMO that has impacted our performance at times and was a factor in last night's loss as well (albeit not the main one).

Happens at the 22 min mark of the video. He runs franklin down. Runs forward and looks fine until the next stoppage in play when he knows he has been hurt. Stays on the ground but is clearly limping for a good few minutes and not the same for the rest of the game

We are no different to other clubs in this regard. Thereโ€™s a narrative around Burgess โ€˜play through painโ€™ mantra being somehow unique. It isnโ€™t.ย

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
