Got 10 of us going to an early diner at Club Southside, Mount Gravatt then the free bus to Gabba. Nice and warm at moment and will drop to around 17 by first bounce. My lawn was fairly dry this morning so hopeful not much dew tonight. In any case we should win by around 4-5 goals.

My pm or message facility has disappeared.  Is this happening across Demonland?

No but don't get paranoid.

Sounds fantastic. Enjoy the night, hope you get to belt out the song!

I'm an armchair supporter tonight picket and past experience has taught me to pace myself in the lead up to these late starts.

I'm confident though that you'll be well [censored] as usual by the first bounce!

Yes one drinks too much out if celebrations or commiserations.

I'm lucky to make it to 3/4 time with the late starts.

All season on DL there are calls for this player or that player to be dropped.

In the last few weeks there has been a crescendo of such talk, with posters variously calling for  Nibbler, Spargo, Swallow, JJ, Harmes and Melksham (though not now!) to be dropped.

Which is all fine - as many have noted it is a footy forum for opinions after all.

But i reckon this quote from Goody's presser yesterday (which i cant find a video of) gives a great insight into one of goody's key coaching philosophies:

"One thing we do know with our team is that building cohesion in how you're playing and cohesion with the playing group that you have in the back four or five rounds of the season is really important. We have been able to do that. We have been able to keep our list really healthy the last four or five weeks and make sure they operate well together and that is the most important thing."

I also found this comment interesting (confirmation bias alert - mine that is):

"They feel physically fresh, they feel ready to go, we feel like we have been able to build some cohesion in the way we play in the last four or five weeks."

Thats all very well but you are supposed to reward good consistent form particularly when Casey are undefeated.

As defenders Hunt, Bowey & Rivers all paid the price but there seems to be a different rule for the small fwds & others.

Only Bedford has been given any chance to show his wares up fwd.  I would argue that Chandler, Baker & Dunstan have been denied reasonable opportunities to show their wares & ANB, Spargo & Sparrow have been generously looked after.

This in a season when the forward line has struggled.

It’s just that no one wants to speak to you.

Would also include Bowey in that mix as a small forward, and possibly Laurie.

Though glad Melky got a chance to prove himself.

Thought last week with Oliver the pre tackle had started to creep back in, seemed to be tackled several times before he had actually taken possession

And then got frustrated and gave away a few silly free kicks

Nice one Brownie, a bit of locals knowledge please - I used to hit up ‘Ze Germahn Klub’ pre match when I lived up here 10 years ago, alas it’s booked out- any other recommendations? (Not the🍍!!)

I’m expecting a tight error riddled match with the Dees pulling away in the third and for Brisbane to ride the crowd a bit in the final.

Yeah, the German club was bloody brilliant ten years ago. So many good beers and schnapps chasers.

We've been in the northern Rivers for seven years, so we're out of touch too now.

There's some good bars in that little cul-de-sac near the five ways but they'll be chokkers too.

Mmm, let me put my drinking cap on....

See the loading thread. You should have been hammered from round 10-18 leaving these late rounds to just have a tipple

If you just want a few beers then go to the Morrison. Its booked out for dinner however only about a 10-15min walk to ground not a bad pub for a drink

There's some new bars up near the mater hospital that may be worth a punt. The princess theatre is supposed to be amazing after the Reno for live music. I think they have a working bar in there as part of it.

Good luck. Seeya in the members with half a skinful

Hey WCW you should hook up with that ever luvin ball of fun Uncle Bitter and get absolutely blotto! 😁

Oh Picket, if I wouldn’t go near BBO with a ten-foot pole while in Victoria, why on god’s green earth would it be any different interstate?!

Now, I was pulled up by another poster for “never talking about football.” To avoid a repeat of this…

GO DEES!

GIVE ‘EM HELL!

❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

I’ve just had a coffee (international Roast… yuck) and a 600ml Red Bull (NOT sugar-free!) at the same time. 🙃

International Roast cannot be confused with coffee on several levels. It is steaming brown and tastes like steaming brown.

Edit. Or so I'm told.

Enjoy the footy tonight, go deees!

Leaving to go to the game soon and just taking my medicine (about 6) before I leave.

I am really nervous about the game and hope like hell we win.

Arguably medicine tastes better.

Getting my pre drinks in before a maxi picks me and 8 adopted dees up… getting a tad nervous now.

Is that right?

Better let Goody know.

Really jealous. I have been waiting for this game all year and would have had the tribe there. But unfortunately I am stuck freezing my butt off in country SA due to family circumstances. Definitely brought too many pairs of shorts down!! Enjoy the weather, enjoy the Gabba and hopefully enjoy the win.

Great to see so many Brissy sider Melb fans heading to the game. Doing us all proud!

This day is dragging and still 4 hours to go before ball up. The Bombers saga has been providing some light relief though

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
