I didn't see any of the game. Was he injured? poor weather?

Perhaps he’s just checked out knowing his chances of a senior berth are pretty minimal.

The only way he can resurrect his career IMO is at another club if one of them wants him.

A sunny day and the chance again to push for selection. 6 disposals and no goals.

I have been a supporter of Weid all along, but I think I have to concede that something has gone wrong with his career and that he is probably not really part of our future plans.

If Jacko leaves, we should probably get a couple of key forwards in a combination of trades and draft picks. Then with JVR coming on and BBB and Tom for another season or two, Weids cards are probably marked.

What a great pity for him and for us.

Insane to think how good he was in the VFL in his first year at the club.

What the hell happened here?

Looked more 'flat' than usual. Wonder if maybe this was the week he's been told we'll be trying to find him another club?

Even think back to this time 2018.

Thought we had a genuine star on our hands.

Or vice versa??

As in, he's told the Dees he wants out? Could be I guess. Just reckon he wouldn't have many suitors atm so would be surprised if he wanted to bail while still contracted and would be out to show something to other teams in that case.

Good and honest post Redleg.

Yes we all want to see him shine.

But he has been given many chances and not really taken most of them.

He shone in a few games this year so he wasn't all bad. Yet he has had on balance more bad games....(below average ) than... good ones.

But let's  be honest.. it's now a case of getting too late.

Possibly knows he can't get into the senior side anyway but he may with injuries or Covid protocols. With those stats though , one would risk someone else.

He seems like a lovely bloke but he has had a lot of pressure on him from the start coming from footy royalty.

I'm not saying it's the same thing as Jack Watts and the attention and expectations on him. That was insane from day one and the club played him way too early in a big Pies game. Often pressure can come from ourselves....ie I sometimes felt I let my dad down not achieving some of the things he did.

Anyway, I feel for the guy...he probably feels he's let people down too.

The question is do we keep him?

Glad I'm not the one naming such decisions or the one having to tell people to move on.

If he moves on and leaves footy behind, I hope he discovers its just a game and while a lucrative career for many, there's plenty of  career options for a young healthy man in this big exciting world.

Maybe he'll just end up playing for the love of the game and do something as as a paying job completely different.

Or maybe a new club and break from ours could see him come much better.

I wish him nothing but the best and I feel bad for any criticism I've made of him.

Getting to play even one senior Afl game is something to put front and centre on one's resume. ( sorry Dstone, I'm sure there's something that goes above the e on the word resume).

Never give up on one's dreams. Sometimes they require a little altering but they are always achievable if you are willing to compromise. It's not a cliche. (.now I remember acute accent. )

Any way that's my positive message for the day.

Weids is young enough to turn it around, we know he has talent, he just needs to get his fitness and desire up. He has another year to run on his contract, i dont think he will be jumping ship, as his form is not anything that is likely to impress another club. And he knows if he can turn it around he could be playing in finals, which may not happen with another club. i would like to see the team support folk try to work with him to sort out his issues, he has potential, but just not realising it often enough, or consistently.

Would have loved it if he made it but alas he doesn't have that one component that is needed and that is intensity, he gets pushed out of the way in contests to easily, does not chase hard enough when he is not in the contest and just does not have any mongrel for a tall man like his grandfather, on the hand I hope they bulk up JVR  because has a lot of Schwarz in him with his movement this one could be special.

It's just sad, from his first few games I did not think he had what it takes to make it at senior level. However he seems like a nice guy and I feel his pain. Good luck Sam try to remember there is more to life than football.

My view is that players should be playing other roles at VFL level than their natural position. Not all the time but say one half every two games.

The VFL comp is not about winning it's about discovering and developing players. Winning is very much second.

Reminds me of the medal they used to give to the best VFL reserves player prior to the AFL. A commentator said it's a good medal to win but you never want to win it twice.

Could not agree more, see what they can do in different positions, why the hell not. Why not try J Bowey forward or wing, or B Howes  forward . You might just find that B Howes is a natural forward and not a wingman or a Jake Bowey is a wingman and not a defender ffs

Agree. I also think it's part of the education process in the sense you get to know what your opponent in that position is trying to do.

Plus if you're a fringe player you are increasing your selection possibility simply because you can play a couple of positions

I'd be really disappointed if the players playing VFL right now have checked out of the season when the AFL finals are about to start.

An injury or suspension could happen out of nowhere and open up a spot.

I'm not sure I can get around moving Petty to the forward line just so that we can get Weideman into the backline.

The May-Lever-Petty combination is up there with the Gawn-Oliver-Petracca-Viney combination for why we're as good as we are right now.

And we don't just have Tomlinson as back up but Joel Smith too.

Not sure what you mean when you say May and Lever "could be managed better"?

“…And we don't just have Tomlinson as back up but Joel Smith too….”

And Disco as well

Silly comment of the week award. Another Demonlander creaming his pants over Howes who hasn't actually done anything yet.

Why'd we even draft a bloke who has done nothing at AFL level!

All the poster was suggesting was that Howes and Bowey be tried in different positions.  Nothing wrong with that.

You appear to have as much trouble with comprehension as you do with anger management Cranky.

The poster wasn't advocating Howes be promoted and wasn't talking up his talents.  He was simply saying that it wouldn't hurt to try young players in different positions at Casey to see how they go.

I don't understand why anybody would have a problem with that suggestion.

To suggest Howes be promoted & play fwd shows shows the poster clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

You clearly struggle with basic reading comprehension. First work on that so you know what posters are in fact “talking about” before you pass judgment.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
