I love Spargs but, he has been terribly out of form for a lot of the year. His role isn't suiting him and I would prefer to have ANB further up the ground to play his role and Chandler as a replacement for some more potency up forward. There needs to be some sort of selection integrity regardless of the runs on the board. We simply must bring in Harmes for Sparrow who is a leader and can play a negating role on Neale.

In: Harmes, Chandler

Out: Sparrow, Spargo

The way we bring the ball into the forward line makes Spargo and Kozzie more of a defensive role and that was fine last year but teams have worked on that, we need to either turn one of them into an attacking option or put someone in like Joel smith with the mindset of crashing packs just flying for everything and have BB just as a leading forward, or take Spargo out and try Chandler.

On Harmes while he can be handy at times, but his main problem with him he invites the tackler to come at him but he is to slow to get rid of it when caught, did that on Sunday a few times, but I suspect there will be not many changes if at all going by the past.

They won't use Harmes to tag Neale

Neale almost cracked 50 touches in last years final and we belted them

I have been Salem's biggest critic since he came back but the last two weeks he's played well. I thought he was great on Saturday. Spargo is a difficult one.Ā  He's spending most of the game on the wing but I don't think he's suited to that role.Ā  He's a true forward pocket / flanker.Ā  Hard to drop him on lack of goals kicked when he's not being used as a forward.Ā  Would love to see harmes in but not sure who for.Ā  Smith is an interesting option.Ā  Great versatility but who does he replace? Based on goodwins preference for minimal change, no change.Ā Ā

Is he? Seems to me Langdon and Jordon are our wingmen most of the time, so if Spargo spends any time in that role, surely it's not for "most of the game".

But here's a good place to ask: Why did Langdon not play 100% game time in the Carlton game as is his norm? Was he injured? Was it to shake a tag? Was he being beaten? Were we trying to play through the other side at the time? Anyone know?

This might have been raised earlier but it's a 6 day break for the AFL side and a 5 day for anyone who played VFL.Ā  If Harmes was in serious consideration it's unlikely they would've played him for a full game in the VFL.

Maybe they've finally realised a winger playing 100% TOG isn't sustainable

He's had a dip in form the second half of the season two years in a row now

IN

Harmes

OUT

Spargo

MISSED THE CUT

FritschĀ  -Ā  didn't do a lot but saved by 8 tackles and past performance and marking

ANB - had a few kicks smothered and was caught

Sparrow - quiet but has some physicality

Big fan of the Frittata but he was very poor on sat night - has plenty of credits but would not want to repeat that effort again IMO

Didn't see the Casey game yet but J Smith in the F50 still has appeal to me - had Melk not performed well he would be a chanceĀ

Why not BOTH???😁

I don't know why he came off but he was standing ready to come back on on the sidelines for a long time while the play was stuck on the other side of the ground

Just finished watching

Ben Brown needs assistance so for me its

SPARGO out SMITH in

JORDAN to MED Sub And HARMES In

By the way HUNT was outstanding all night

Don't hate it picket - but I'd have JVR in not Smith. He's a natural forward and suited at this stage to be a roaming 3rd tall with BB, gawn/jackson, and fritter and melky playing mid height. ANB and Kossie the smalls - with rotations it's versatile- can small or tall at various stages of the game,Ā

Spargs was running around looking lost a lot of the night, i think JJ needs a freshen up - he's been hobbling on that knee

I still find it laughable that people entertain the idea of dropping Fritsch. He's our leading goal kicker (by far) and the only player in the AFL this season to kick a goal in every game.Ā

Who played on Neale last time?

Harmes and he kicked 2 goals himself. I think bringing Harmes in for Sparrow is a decent move (Sparrow becomes the sub) but the fact Harmes will only have a 5 day break has really sabotaged that idea.Ā

Like itĀ

Jordan move yes, Harmes tags Neale, Brayshaw more time wing

Smith is a bit of a Hail Mary, but if he's body and match fit then I'd take it,Ā  and hope enough smalls and 2way run

Smith looked a fair way off VFL pace let alone AFL on Sunday for mine.Ā  Highly unlikely.

Same with Harmes.

JVR was mostly unsighted.Ā  Can't see him coming in this season.

so why did'nt they plan for this for this game?

The other key question is, if TMac gets fit, who loses their spot for him? The spot is currently occupied by Melksham, who probably has done enough now to see himself through to whenever our season finishes.

I dont see how Tmac comes back in this season, at best he will be available first week of finals and thats with no match fitness

My thoughts too neitz - no match preparation at all. Ā Wishful thinking really.

What’s laughable is dropping him after he actually showed elite defensive intent. He is going to have games where he gets smothered. Having Melksham takes pressure of Fritsch. He chased and tackled and if we can slow down and hit him up, Bayley will kick his 3 or 4.

Well this would be about the time I say get rid of Melksham.Ā

Silly me.

Its a huge test for Goodwin and the coaches I reckon. It depends on what sort of Neale game we get.

  • r15 22 - 22 disposals - LOST
  • qf 21Ā  Ā -Ā Ā 46 disposals - LOST
  • r12 21 -Ā  25 disposals - LOST
  • r8 20 - 33 disposals - won
  • r15 19 - 38 disposals - won

His impact has been ok against us, but certainly the last 3 outings he has not done any damage. Still i would tag him. There only other damage player is McCluggage.Ā

And the May v Daniher match up - Daniher will roam high, do we want May going with him, it renders Lever very vulnerable on a 1 on 1 match up.Ā

Yep....It's delusional to contemplate dropping him.....Atbog, or any other time.

He's due for a bag of rolls soon.

I didn't get why Trac wasn't in the middle more too given we were losing the ccs.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, MelbourneĀ captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles atĀ Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.Ā  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, aĀ career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested),Ā nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.Ā

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
