Pittonet in and De Koning out. Going with experience at bagger land.

Pittonet kills Max as a rule.

100%

Harmes should now come straight in for either Sparrow or Jordan.  Run with on Cripps.

A bit of a whisper Pickett has a knee niggle and might be in some doubt. Hopefully he is at training this morning, I'm sure we will have some eyes there.

Makes sense with the knee strapping last week.

I don't think so.  They've played against each other twice in real games.  Round 2 2020 - Gawn 2 Brownlow votes, 21 disposals, 34 hitouts v Pittonet 14 disposals 23 hitouts.  Next game was the last time we played them - Round 9 2021 - Gawn 15 disposals, 44 hitouts v Pittonet 9 disposals, 23 hitouts and a goal.

Chandler on standby surely?

If we stick by the mantra that players do not play their first ever game as the sub, there are only two legit choices for the sub this week. Of course, if an emergency does get a call-up, that could change. For example, if Pickett doesn't get up (see above, re a suggestion of a knee issue), perhaps Laurie will get to play his first game.

Surely Goodwin is not that foolish? In the eyes of so many supporters and members, he'd lose his job.

Meh, that's like saying the club doctor could lose their license if they allow the medi-sub to come on from a faked injury!

The fact that Harmes can't get a gig after a loss says a bit about his importance to the team. (or lack thereof).

Conversely, that would mean you consider Melksham an important player then yes?

Possibly! Wouldn't be a bad one to start in.

Yes, he's playing an important role and doing it well.

Harmes should be a mainstayer but his inconsistency is infuriating. He is at prime age. So the fact that he can't get back into the side says a bit imo.

What's your point?

Surely it’s Chandler that is knocking down the door to get in. Laurie has not

Was just interested in your opinion mate. TBH I'm on the fence about both Harmes and Melksham being important for us. Melksham has been better than I expected since coming in, but personally I would prefer a tall forward in his spot, just think that would help our forward problems particularly when we have Ben Brown roaming so high up the ground so often.

But Laurie is named as one of the four emergencies; Chandler is not.

Anyway, it might all be moot. Kev Martin has started a training thread for today and is keeping an eye on Pickett. Kev has confirmed that Pickett is at training.

I know the guy has done every role in footy this season but i'd give Brayshaw the role of going to Cripps at stoppages. He has the strength to compete with him in there and the footy smarts to expose him on offense.

If we can mitigate Cripps at stoppage and our backs can keep McKay and Curnow under control i find it hard to see how Carlton can get us

Personally I would like to see us include Harmes this week and rotate the sub through players like Sparrow, Jordon, ANB and Spargo. I think we would get a boost from these players being fresh and I don't think it would make a difference to our probability of winning.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
