Shopping list to complete the perfect Demon 22:

1x peak Jesse Hogan

1x peak Paddy Ryder

1x peak Neville Jetta

If Jackson stays, obviously remove the Paddy Ryder requirement.

Actually, you could take the best available discount brand version of those three and our list would be all set.

I'd have a Kozzy clone at the top of my list. With our midfield dominance and the two best mids in the game (at least player ranking wise), repeated entries with x factor at ground level circa Richmond 2017, could be near unstoppable, particularly if we tweak our set up behind the ball.

I had a look through the other contenders and where their goals were coming from.

Interestingly, Geelong & Brisbane were running with 2+ Big forwards and we have Fritta (45) Kozzie (32) & Brown (25) while Collingwood have Mihocek, Elliot, Ginnivan and Henry all over 20.

Carlton have 100 goals between Curnow & McKay but I left them off as they are not contenders (this year)

We do not have dependable goal kickers and I think that’s our true issue.

Ideally for me, Fritta is our 3rd forward, rather than our only reliable forward (45)

Hogan has the forward craft and has a high footy IQ. He would demand a defender on him at all times, one that is unlikely to play off him. Couple that with some half decent forward coaching and you'd create an abundance of space in the F50 for which we would have  BBB, Fritta and TMac  all benefiting.

To me its clear that we need a hard bodied competitor in the forward line. Hogan is probably gettable, comes at a reasonable price and would have immediate impact. He should be looked at.

Jessie has played most of his career in consistently hopeless sides. One wonders how he would go in a well coached, top four side.

Next year we must start with a clearer solution for the forward line.  Van Rooyen is still a few years away and we cannot place all our hope in him yet.  Weid is loved but unlikely to solve our search. Tom and Ben Brown are aging and subject to injury. Our champion midfielders have all signed long term contracts. A small forward line is far to easily outmarked with merely one tall. So who is available to be traded in. No champion is on the horizon. But we need some marking forward to add to the potential we have.

Jessie is worth considering. GWS are in transition with a new coach. They are not expecting immediate top four but the rebuilding will be their approach. A high pick may be highly valuable for them. I say Jessie because he would add to our forward line.

We missed our chance with Peter Write last year who now has 49 goals this year.

Who else is there who is mid twenties?  If not Jessie then a Jessie like player

I reckon he's back up or needs to compliment Kozzy and someone else.

Given we've seen little of Chandler at the highest level, maybe it's him, but I doubt it.

I'd have been testing a forwardline of Kozzy, Bedford and Chandler earlier in the season. When Chandler played, I'm not sure Bedford was in the side as well.

If you're going to play Max and BB as your tall forwards, you need pressure forwards at ground level if the zone is going to sit deep.

Obviously, ANB, Spargo, Sparrow and the likes of Harmes or Trac can bring pressure, but not the same type.

I think Chandler would bring the highest amount of pressure in the forward area, given his hunger and personality. He just needs a chance. I dont know who comes out though. ANB maybe.

I thought we were happy to let Jessie go - for reasons I am not sure

However, if we were keen to let him fly why would we now want him back ?

Because he was the best forward we have had in years.

Beaten by some ordinary coaching and game plan. This can be fixed for an enormous talent.

I think you need to ask why things didn't work out at Freo - I have no idea and I am not going to speculate but clearly there is more to the JH story than meets the eye

Trade Hogan for Picks, trade one of the picks for Steven May, use the other on Tom Sparrow. Go on to win the flag and then maybe bring Hogan back, this would be some real 4d Chess.

That'd be shooting yourself in the foot. ANB brings pressure. Spargo brings ball use. Sparrow brings back up defensive mid rotation. I think it's Sparrow that comes out.

He is cheap, more mature, he now wishes he didn't leave, is over his injuries, and Weid has failed compared to what we thought he would achieve back then. Also doesn't get out marked or pushed under the ball

The nay sayers in this thread have not really advanced any reasons as to why this move should not be considered.

He left us and Freo under a cloud but he appears to have got those aspects under control. Anyway that is capable of being investigated and confirmed.

Is he fit. His form at GWS suggests yes but again needs confirmation.

The upside is massive and the price is right.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't examine the possibility closely

I’d be asking our playing group their thoughts before I did anything

If JVR is still "a few years away", he'll be back to WA for lack of opportunity and we'll waste 2-3 years on him.

I want someone who I can trust to be on the park week in week out. Not saying he can't do this but I'm not convinced at this time with the number of questionable games where he's 'managed'.

I would look at him if he came cheap but not convinced he fixes everything.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
