the first half… and the second

Tigers have an easy run home. They could make finals.

Port in Adelaide, Hawks at the G and Essendon at the G.

Could lose all 3. They lost to Norf don’t forget

Lions were 7 goals up weren’t they?

Geelong like loss.  The Lions Blues game going to mean a lot next week.

I've said it before but Brisbane's leadership and midfield is highly questionable. They go missing at really important points. Remind me of MFC circa 2002-2006. Really poor again.

Agree.

But their main issue is their woeful defence.

Old school sysyem thst just doesn't cut it - as evidenced by how many big scores they've give up.

Cost them this game as they simply couldn't stop the tiger's momentum

From the AFL game day thread

"Searching for their first win since Round 21, 2014 at the MCG, Brisbane gave up a 42-point lead and were overrun by the Tigers. This came about as Brisbane's ball movement was stifled by Richmond. In the first half, Brisbane turned 34 defensive chains into 16 forward 50 entries and 6.3 (39); in the second half, 30 chains only yielded seven entries and three behinds."

Brisbane did a Melbourne.

Welcome to the Dangerzone, Lions.

Serious question- have we been 42pts down and lost this year? I don’t think so but wondering if you or anyone knows

I love when Brisvegas play the self appointed barometer, Rhys Mathieson.

Random thought….

Blues don’t make the 8 (even if they win tonight).

Lions @ Gabba

Dees @ MCG

Pies @ MCG

Tigers to win next 3.

Blues making the 8 comes down to them beating the Pies rd 23.

Massive choke from the Lions. They lost it more than the Tigers win it. Lions won contested footy, clearances, inside 50s etc. just what the bed when the pressure came

Agreed. Zorko is the worst captain in the league and yes I am including Heppell in that. He is a hot head and thinks of himself. Argues with the umps and has personal grudge matches a lot.

the Sooner McCluggage is made captain the better for them

Uh oh.

Oops. I could not pick a winner to save my life this year. That is why I don't bet on Melbourne games.

Another bonus out of that game is St Kilda. They have  to win next week now, most likely they wont but its now their Grand Final.

That is the most insightful thing said this week.

Brisbane's chance to win a flag was the only year in history when the finals were/will be played in QLD. Not sure where they go from here. Back to QLD, I guess.

They can’t win, neither can Flagmantle. It’s out of the current top 4.

got an armchair ride to the prelim at the Gabba during covid impacted 2020 and still couldn't get the job done. Serial chokers in the big games

Rippa great result for Dees beat Pies where locked in top two

Wouldn't count on this - Sydney have North, Collingwood (at the SCG where they are 8-2) and St Kilda to come. Very good chance they make up the 4 points and 5% between us even if we go 2-1 from here.

So basically if we beat the Pies and Carlton we will finish 2nd?

I hate seeing Richmond win but it helps us

For now.

Keep winning and it could be us against the Swans at the G.

Lose one and it could be Swans at the SCG.

If that was the case, I think I would prefer to finish 4th and play the Cats at the G.

Haven't worked out all the scenarios needed for various results yet, I am sure others on DL will.

Carlton, Lions and Freo lose and we win convincingly and regain our team defence

nice weekend!

Bring on Friday to crush the filth!!

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
