I don't get this argument that playing against the Pies in front of a big crowd is not the time to debut JVR. We are bringing him in with the full intention that he will be part of our finals campaign. Some players thrive in the big occasions, some don't. JVR would only have to perform 20% better than Weid last night and it makes our team better. The one thing that JVR shows is that he is a competitor.

Don't read too much into today. The bull ants are last in the comp. A bit like a few weeks ago against North.

JVR will be a good player, but needs another pre-season to build his tank and strength to have an impact at AFL level. Would prefer to bring in Smith as a forward than JVR.

Some good selection headaches for next week.

Great performance by JVR but the occasion of next week might be too big to debut him just yet.

Straight in for the Weid.  In great form the last three matches and couldnt do any worse.

Apologies to Weid and wish him all the best.  Lovely young fella and might turn it up at some point.  But he's had plenty of chances to solidify his place and hasn't quite taken things to a level required to cement.

We have absolutely nothing to lose by playing JVR for the rest of the season unless he gets fatigued.  Highly lilely of course but it's time to roll the die.

JVR will present a completely different prospect for the oppo.  Bloke can play and take key marks at times even against solid defenders.  Can split a pack as well and gets to a number of contests to do so.

Will take a while to settle but his time has arrived.  Exciting stuff.  Let's go Demons!!

Obviously some people don’t remember Jack Watts’ debut. JVR needs to be treated patiently.

Completely different circumstances and team vs that debacle.

If Brown isn't fit then van Rooyen comes in surely.

Just looking at that confirms what I said in an earlier post: he is still a boy and you can’t play him against men. There is no muscle definition in his arms and shoulders. Play him in the firsts and his development will be set back years.

Pity about the bye next week - another solid JVR game could have been a good lead in for Carlton - NDAF - never debut against filth

Another bye next week, what a joke this competition is. So they all sit on their hands three weeks from the finals.

And this rubbish, of course, is what will happen if Gillon gets his parting wish, a 19th team.  Thank Gil … great parting gesture.

Vastly different circumstances ….  back when JW debuted the whole club was poorly run and the team poorly managed.  No depth of on field leadership either.

Congrats on the most ridiculous post ever. JVR isn't seen as our saviour like Watts. And JVR has a competitive instinct that Watts never had.

You obviously never saw Robbie Flower play. Fritsch isn't exactly an Adonis.

Joel Smith played forward.  He didn’t especially stand out but after such a long lay off and playing forward for the first time since (as a guess) late 2018, I doubt much was expected of him.  Possibly the coaches are considering him as a forward option in the seniors if required.  Right now, he’d be behind Tomlinson and Turner for a big back position.

Didn’t see much of Howes unfortunately.

Smith got better as the game wore on - bit rusty early as you’d expect but he did some nice things in the second half and some good marks

It was a difficult day for talls given the windy conditions so not really ideal for him or M Brown

Howes was ok but didn’t get much of it and turned the ball over a couple of times with poor disposal - again probably couldn’t expect much given a long time out - needs a big summer in the gym IMO

He looks just as well (or unwell) developed as Weed, and Tim English last year.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan.
