It’s not. We don’t play games. We will take him if the money makes sense.

I’m less concerned about the money as I am on the 5 years and his lack of forward capabilities. I understand it’s our window, just think it’s not right move.

Yeah, I agree. On paper it’s not the logical need, but I suspect there’s a bit more going on than we know. Brown might be able to go around again next year, and then we are REALLY light on for height. It might be more about need than we currently know.

Grundy Is finished. Injury is apparently worse than broadcast. I know a guy, same guy who said Dawes was finished after Collingwood -due to a finger. He said Grundy is done. How reliable is he? I don’t know but he said Dawes was done after Collingwood due to a finger and Dawes proceeded to play like he had wooden hands at our club.

So Jake Spencer is back for Casey today…

33 in October…

Still quite tall…

Grundy was very impressed by the MFC presentation this week according to Sam Edmond on SEN.

That’s a shame.

and after due consideration, it’s still a No from me.

Grundy is physically very fragile and offers very little as a forward.  For the $$$, it’s not where we need to invest.

We need a strong marking KPF to kick the goals.  Lynch,Hawkins, Curnow,Franklin, Bking, Naughton, Walker, JoshKennedy, Darling,Daniher type key forward.

Weid is not the answer. BBrown is playing with an ongoing knee issue and has 12 mths left imv. Tmcd has 1-2 years left at best. JVR will progress but need another.

So who do you suggest? Who is on the market this off season? Who are we going to draft that will make an impact next year?

And before you say one of next years RFA like McKay or Curnow, there is no guarantee they would leave their clubs and it would be bad list management not to try and improve our list in other areas while holding out hope that they’ll join us.

People need to stop throwing out this tired line that we need a KPF but then not giving any realistic proposals of how we are going to get one in the short to medium term. Our list management team are clearly aware that we need one, but they would be just as aware that there may not be one available to us - that is why we’re looking at players like Grundy who may fill other needs and make us better.

Obviously everyone has their opinion of whether we should go after Grundy specifically, but please, let’s stop talking about this magical KPF who is going to fall in our laps.

So you think Pies are hiding him from the rest of the season (no VFL even) so they can sandbag us on a deal.

I love a conspiracy theory

People keep thinking Grundy is the same player as he was in his All Australian years. His last 3 years have been as follows:

2020 - 7th in the B&F. Played every game but supposedly struggled with Covid hub.

2021 - 6th in the B&F. Team won 4 of the 20 games he played.

2020 - Played 6 games. Team won 3. Team has been 12/2 without him, and he is now considered surplus to needs.

I don't see how he makes us better as a primary ruckman ahead of Max. And as a goalkicker, he averages 0.3 goals a game.

By having Grundy team with Max, it would at least give our forward line that it doesn’t have at the moment (physical presence).

I don’t like it, as neither Gawn or Grundy are a KPF, they’d just be resting ruck. Unfortunately none of our talls has any physical presence. I want a B+/A grade KPF, none are available, so the best we can hope for is 2 C graders to be a stop gap until JVR is ready (even then it’s all our eggs in another great white hope young forward).

Man, people were whinging about Ben Brown, Melksham, paying overs for Lever and May etc etc. Same old story here.

Grundy is a bona fide A grader and would improve our team unquestionably.

If Collingwood were prepared to pay a chunk of his contract and we got him for a second rounder, it'd be a no brainer.

Just trust our FD because every high profile player we've brought in under this FD has payed us back and then some and clearly if we're targeting him, we'd have a rock solid plan around the way our forward line will function going into next year with Gawn spending more time as that key pillar.

Grundy an a-grader? Yes he was. I seriously doubt he still is, if he is even able to get out in the park

Nice Jimmy. Couldn’t agree more. Regardless of our on field performance the industry has been very complimentary about our list management - which has been near flawless over the last few years.

Trust and believe in what got us to this position.

Can’t remember the last trade that didn’t work out very well for us…

I trust, but I have notes.

Our last bad trades were in the Roos era, and quite a few involved Collingwood. Traded Howe for Ben Kennedy. Basically gave them Lynden Dunn for nothing. And we traded for Heritier Lumumba. I don't want us to add to that list.

I think Grundy is still a good player , however we need to know if Jackson wants to leave. The Pies would need to prop up his wage. Then we will need to recruit a younger player for ruck/forward duties.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
