His father Terry played for Footscray but I don't know if his kids did the usual thing of barracking for his old club.

Isak Rankine officially requests a trade to Adelaide. Suns will most likely acquire pick 5 out of the trade leaving them with picks 5 and 7 for the draft. Might give us an opportunity to work our way up the draft.

Karl Amon has entered the free agency too

He hasn't nominated a club yet has he? Hawthorn are the front runners allegedly but we are said to be in the conversation as well. As we're still playing finals, the longer he takes to nominate could be an indication that he's leaning towards the dees.

Yep he hasn't nominated a club yet...I just saw the tweet from Port saying they have parted ways with Karl Amon who will explore free agency

Do we need him, and the salary that goes with it? I think Blake Howes will start 2023 Rnd1 as the other wingman, and stay there all year

Gold Coast already have 2 extra second round picks and an extra in both the 3rd and 4th rounds. So they are flush with picks, so they'll be very actively in dealing this year. Brisbane are the ones who'll really need picks, so I'd imagine they'll talk to them first but I'm sure we'll be talking with them, it's a skill we've mastered like few others.

Really ? I've watched a fair bit of Casey this season and while he has shown a bit - physically looks a fair way off AFL ready to me

With the finals bye this week, there's some clear air for players who are not the finals, to make their intentions clear. Rankine is first cab of the rank.

But if that player wants to go to a club currently in the finals, then they'll wait before declaring. So there isn't anything stopping Amon declaring that he wants to go to the Hawks. Maybe we are a chance.

Clarko mentioned On The Couch last night that most deals are agreed upon prior to the season's end. The clubs are constantly talking to opposition players, through their manager. The media like to speculate that there are multiple clubs in play for a certain player, but the reality is that the player has already locked in a club.

Indeed.

Brisbane will likely trade down their 1st rounder for 2nd and 3rd round picks and Gold Coast are in the box seat there. Pick 5 and 7 plus potentially pick 12 if the Lions get knocked out by Richmond. Should Jackson go, Suns may unlock the key to getting us adequate compensation.

And then the club has to agree a trade…

Think of all the extra frees we would get if we had Naughton!!!!!

I don't think that's how it works.

As soon as he is in red and blue he'll barely get another free for his career.

First year player and had significant injury concerns. Looks to me like he has the tools and the desire to succeed at AFL level. I know a lot of other clubs supporters that spotted him before the draft and were dirty we got him. A big off season and I think he'll explode next year.

BBB the perfect example of that

Since we were one of the clubs linked to him earlier in the year I've tried to watch him closely whenever I see a Port match.  I've obviously been watching the wrong matches but he hasn't been the classy player that everyone talks about - in fact I mostly have seen him turn it over / bomb it long.

I know I've obviously not seen his best but... do we really want him?

I guess as a free agent it costs nothing.

I would rather the salary go to a key forward or ruck / forward though i think

It's a big call - he seems lightly built at the moment.  And to get in the Melbourne team (especially on the wing) you need elite fitness (tank) and discipline to implement the game plan.  Would hope he gets there but would be surprised if its Rd 1 next year.

Too right.

That said I'd be happy if stevic umpired all our matches - does a good job.

I went back out of interest to see what the difference is.

2018 he got 48 frees for (22 games, 2.18 per game)

2019  44 (22 games, 2 per game)

2020 6 (9 games, 0.66 per game)

2021 11 (13 games, 0.84 per game)

2022 11 (16 games, 0.68 per game)

Quite a different

Not sure what this is based on to be honest. He’s played 7 games for Casey in 22. He’s averaging less that 14 disposals per game and kicked 3 goals. Hasn’t had one game over 20 possessions.

That’s not screaming that he’s ready for the next level to me.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
