Part of or forward line woes is rooted in our slow ball movement. The only time  we move it quickly into our forward line is when we get it out the front of a centre bounce. Not much quick ball movement from D50 either by taking risks with disposal or by run and carry.

No doubt about that. I just think we are too defensively focused and not strong enough in the air, particularly rolling the same setup for a third straight year. If any of Spargo, ANB or Kozzie were good in the air (and taller) it would be create quite a different dynamic.

It is why we have Struggled since TMac went down in Round 10.
He was targeted in that game

As for North Melbourne’s talent. Would anyone know Will Phillips if they sat next to him in a restaurant.

Wasted pick.

He's 5 ft nothing, so easy to miss.

Agree, seems like a bust for pick 2. At best, he'll be an Andrew Swallow.

He’s taller than the 2 players we took with first round picks in the same draft!

Poor kid has had an awful run in his first 2 years in the system, plus the 2020 season that they all missed. With a change of fortune he’ll work his way to being a good player, I’d say more like a Darcy Parish than a Swallow.

Curnow has just signed a 6 year deal with the Blues. McKay will enter free agency end of next season. If there is any chance of him leaving, our recruiters have to be talking to the Blues this year and giving them something to seriously consider in terms of trade at the risk of him just walking out the door. Make it eye watering - something they cannot refuse. We will have plenty of competition to get him next year. Off McKay a 5 year contract circa 800-900K/yr. It will push us right to the edge of cap space, we may even need to let another 1-2 players go to accommodate. But it will be worth it IMO.

Big news for them, probably the one they needed to sign first. We'll start next year with at least 8 clubs after Harry.

Tom De Koning at blues - his contract expires end of this year I believe - would probably prefer him than pay big bucks for Grundy

bit stiff on a second year player who has had glandular all year. he'll come good, just been really stiff, think it's hilarious when posters write off a  pick 2 who debuted for 10 or so games in year one but are super optimistic about a 2nd year rookie at our club like a deak smith type making the grade whose showed far less.

We probably need to find the Peter Wright type. The player who has yet to truly show his potential due to lack of opportunities or injuries.

i was super into him when he left gold coast, saw more long term upside than BBB but we went that way for whatever reasons. i think most DL's are in agreement that a Ratugolea, McLean, Riccardi type should be top of our shopping list. surprised by the pies interest in Frampton, has shown close to stuff all in 6 years and at 2 clubs but i guess those 10 year 30 game ruckmen are important to have as insurance and he has shown a bit as a key back at times as well i think avg 7 intercepts in the SANFL this year

Totally agree. I know a figure of around 700k a season was floated somewhere like FC recently but we could make this much more workable than the Grundy deal.

OOC in 2023 but i can't see him leaving even after his recent spell in the 2s, he'll be top 2-3 ruckman in the comp in the next 5 years he's only 23yo. think how much english has exploded this year thatll be TDK next

I just think If he was any chance to leave, Blues would want to get something done this year, so this could play into our hands.

Its a long-shot, i know, but come end of next season, i can definitely see him walking to Norf on a heft pay packet to play with his brother.

That would be the smart way yes. However as we've learned this year if it can at least stretch out to his contract year at very least it will make for some good media 😀

Gunston looks still gettable... Given TMac and Brown have one good leg between them, I'd have a crack.

The Hawthorn coach said there was always still time to turn things around, even citing a recent example, while admitting veteran forward Gunston is still mulling over his future.

“It’s up to their own self-awareness. We’ve got 13 guys who are out of contract, so there’s 13 who are thinking something, but some of those are Jack Gunston and Ben McEvoy, so they probably know what they’re doing,” Mitchell said.

“In Ben’s case he knows it’s his last game and in Jack Gunston’s case he knows he’s going to be playing again he’s just got some decisions to make on what that looks like.

Isak Rankine to Adelaide seems to be a persistent rumour. Gold Coast likely to get Adelaide's first round pick leaving them with pick 5 and 7.

If we could some how add Karl Amon and Tom dekoning to our list next year that would fill so many needs

Need a classy mid who can kick goals and de koning perfect replacement for Jackson

Whether we use freo first round this year for de koning and we still could Get freos 23 first too

Would obviously need to shed some salary somehow too

Not a rumour but more of a wish. Draper or Cox from the Bombers could be worth poaching.

Cox is just another Cale Morton. No thanks.

Sorry Cale....

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
