Tomlinson is the same height, Brown is not a ruck and at his age it's not the time to start so it made sense for JVR to do some ruck time. It's good for his development and it wasn't taking time from anyone else.

As others have said it looks like he (JVR) is a bit taller than the 193 he was at draft time.

For what it's worth if Jackson misses I think Tommo will probably come in as back up.

JVR was contesting centre bounces against a 100kg 205cm ruckman in Ned Moyle.  It was as idiotic as RDB putting Robbie Flower at full back against Malcolm Blight. That really helped Robbies' development.

By all means let JVR contest throw ins in the forward line if you think it helps his development.

This is factually incorrect. Max is possibly the best tap ruckman of all time. Both his hit outs and hits to advantage are elite

Yeah well I tend also to disagree as well!

Conspiracy theory - Does Melb want to find out to what degree Weid can hold down second ruck possy next year, by giving him the full game in ruck this week?

I assumed the conspiracy theory would be the clubs been told about Luke’s future and are shelving him.

Melksham and Brown captured in the footage of the Captain’s Run at Adelaide Oval a short time ago. Couldn’t spot Hunt or Tomlinson.

Mitch Brown to ruck ?

Anthony Anderson Reaction GIF

I think we should all get a grip. We have Weid most likely as the No. 1 ruck for a whole week before Max gets back. We're playing Adelaide, we have a gun midfield that will adapt and shark. If Weid plays like he did last week, against an inferior side (compared to Brisbane), he will do more than OK. BBB has done a lot of back up ruck work for North over the years and can come in if the sky falls in (which it wont). Not that excited by M Brown or Thommo coming in but hopefully they'll do their job. Don't forget everyone, we've got an ace up our sleeve with Harmsie to the ruck!

Jackson officially ruled out (afl website)

Another conspiracy/rumour floating around is that Goodwin wasn’t keen on Jackson flying to Adelaide because he was concerned that if he saw WA on the in-flight map it would make him homesick and tilt his decision away from Melbourne.

Both theories entirely possible.

My view about Aaron Bradtke last year was that he was being played in the key defensive positions because he wasn’t developing as a ruckman.

In any event, the record shows that Bradtke was registered with VAFA B Section club Old Haileybury on 17 March, 2022 and has only managed 3 games at that level, the last of which was on 28 May, 2022. This indicates that he’s not doing anything to suggest that the decision to delist him was incorrect.

Could he be injured?

like it or not You’d think Tomlinson would have to be the medi sub in front of melksham, JVR and hunt

a bit more versatile if a tall or a small goes down during the game

Mitch Brown has been selected as Jackson's replacement. That's who should have been playing 2nd ruck at Casey last week.

  • Demonland changed the title to TEAMS: Rd 16 vs Adelaide

Note Port have been going very nicely of late with Findlayson as their no 1 ruck. Makes a contest and gets a lot of ground ball.

As Nightwish dialogue declared before Triumphant DVD set

"Shudder, before you fall"

So Jackson lasts one game as a number one Ruck. Awesome. I'd now trade him. I'm saying this as I got him into my SuperCoach team with almost no trades left. Does anyone know how bad it is. Not Angry just disappointed.

I’ll never forget Austin’s sheer delight at Optus Oval when we won the flag. He rushed on the ground with his mates  to celebrate a Flag with the team he’s always followed.

It must have been a setback  to not be able to pursue his Demon AFL dream.

Jack Bell is from Old Haileybury, too.

A pity Majak didn’t retire a few weeks earlier to open a spot for us to draft him mid-year.

That big Smith guy looks all right at Casey, too.

I always thought McInerney looked promising at Casey.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
