No Gawn

No Tmcd

Daw retired

now … Dogga out - wtf. no no no !!!

Weid to Ruck v O’Brien. Ummmm. Ahhhhhh!

plan B. Petty to ruck. Alternate with Tomlinson.  (???).

I would bring in Tomlinson.  He’s played versatile ruck before plus can cover for Petty if we put him in the ruck.

Has he ever rucked?
I would be tempted to play Chandler or JVR in front of M Brown.

TBH we have had ruck dominance for almost 20 years and the opposition mids became experts at taking it away. Hope our guys were watching how it's done.

Far more worried about which forward line will show up tomorrow

I think Tomlinson provided ruck assistance at GWS. I don't recall him doing so with us.

Nevertheless, if Jackson is out I see two options. Either Mitch Brown is the replacement for Jackson to provide height in the forward line or Tomlinson comes in, plays in defence, and Petty plays forward and 2nd ruck. There are pros and cons with each option.

Yeah Tomlinson provided Ruck support in his last year at GWS, even took some centre square bounces in the GF against Richmond with limited success. Definately not as competent as Weid and Weid is just competent.

I doubt Dogga would have been doing those drills if he was injured enough not to play. Hopefully it is the journos seeing bandage and assuming out.

Makes my suggestion last year, to keep Austin Bradtke for another year as Insurance, sound quite good now.

It was foresight and not hindsight.

I actually thought he was doing ok at CHB and in the ruck. Certainly no star, but good Insurance until we could bolster ruck depth.

i would not play Petty in the ruck and risk him getting injured.

If needed, I would play Tomlinson in the ruck, changing with Weid.

Only if you think he'd get a game and be better than the alternative.

I think Weid is more than capable of providing a centre bounce contest for one game.  Let's be honest, Jackson played a good game last week but you'd hardly say he dominated hitouts - in fact quite the opposite.  Our mids had no problem garnering clearance from a non dominant ruck.  Weid needs to be busy around the contest and provide a down the line contest.  O'Brien hasn't been in stellar form but on his day he is a very good AFL standard ruckman.  Obviously we'd be better with Jackson, but I don't mind Weid on ball.  Our biggest issue will be when Weid needs a spell.

and has a tank to expose O'Brien. watch them stack up the talls in their forward line now.

We are only talking on the possibility of Jacko missing this week. Gawn looks likely next week.

If Jacko plays we go as selected and no Bradtke would not be picked ahead of Weid.

Whatever happens we need ruck depth next year, even if Jacko stays.

As someone posted above, with Daw gone, T Mac injured and getting older, there are not many options outside the big two.

I questioned the decision to play JVR as 2nd ruck for Casey last week. If either Mitch Brown or Tomlinson play the role in Jackson's absence, it makes the decision even more ridiculous.

Thilthorpe in now with Walker and Fogarty.

Hopefully they are a little top heavy now.

Are we having a run at the Adelaide Oval today? We need some DL eyes down there.

My point was that, even in an emergency, Bradtke still wouldn't be the answer to any of those questions. His VFL form also reinforces that delisting him was not a mistake. Of course we will have to look at additional ruck depth for next year.

FWIIW. The last player I can recall who went from a struggling full forward into the ruck was Graham Teasdale at South Melbourne.

Won a Brownlow in a dominant season. Not saying Weid is as good but what's the harm in giving him a run. He has footy smarts just not enough oomph.

I'd be happy if weed could be 15% as effective as teasdale in the ruck.

Teasdale was a star, and in some ways ahead of his time in terms of his athleticism as a ruckman.

I rate weed's ruck craft.

I think it was 2019 when he played quite a few games at Casey as the main ruck.

He held his own at vfl level and has done ok at afl level when he has had to ruck.

The other bonus is he is in the game when rucking - and being physical is a non negotiable.

If jacko can't play, I'm confident weed will be good cover. And a full game as the number one ruck might be a real positive for him.

My head says weed won't make it.

But - and I'm not sure why (apart from being an optimist by nature) - I have a feeling he will.

My first thought on reading this earlier today was how the heck did the news get into the public domain so quickly. Do we have a rat feeding journos info or was Dogga just gormless enough to mention it in conversation to someone.

My first thought was that if Jimmy was still with us Jackson would have told  him he was staying.

Yes and also because he had played in the ruck for a few years and was going ok at CHB for Casey as well IMO, meaning he was developing.

I do agree that long term he may not have made it, but with no ruck depth and not getting anyone else, I would have kept him another year.

After our main 2, I think we have about the worst ruck depth in the AFL and we have Key forward issues too just by the way.

Is it possible Bradtke didn't want to continue and pulled the pin himself?

Don't think so.
