I don't get the outrage

Or the endless pontification in this thread.

Seriously time to move on

Not to prolong this more than it needs to be but the one constant I find with De Goey in all these scenarios is that he's alone. Rarely mention of teammates or close friends being present. I brought up Chris Tarrant before but I remember most of his indiscretions were with teammates there, usually Ben Johnson.

Could be one of these lone ranger party animals that likes the buzz of venturing out and getting attention like a Wayne Carey back in the day. Possibly addicted to the thrill of it. I don't know, just a thought.

Could be, but how about this - no one else is dumb enough to go with him on these trips.

Not sure about in Bali but he has had 'friends' with him when other problems have cropped up.  They take the pics/films and put them on social media.  In Bali his 'friends' could be newbies while there.  As one media commentator put it: "they throw him under a bus then reverse over him."   Sometimes he does the damage himself by taking selfies for social media.

Jordie needs to wise up on a lot of fronts.  One is to dump those who exploit him and find real mates that will protect him from himself in potential risky situations, and from others.

Hopefully, he hasn't left it too late, not just for his football but for himself after football.

That's it, maybe he just has too many 'Yes' people in his circle LH. Pretty easy to find drinking buddies but you are who you roll with at the end of the day.

Why defend the meathead.

Not defending him, I think it's a ordinary look, from a bloke who has some ordinary form, but the specific event is pretty minor itself given (what I understand to be correct):

  -  woman involved has stated she has no issues with him

  -  he didn't film/distribute it (which is pretty ordinary in itself)

I'm just calling out the disproportionate reaction to this specific event. The outrage and reaction is feeding the story and has become the story. The layers of outrage are multiplying. Every commentator having to find a new angle to express outrage, and out-outrage each other. The outrage at the apology... So many people with so much outrage and offence taken on behalf of someone who is not offended, and on behalf of everyone else in general who should be offended, and outrage at people that aren't offended... 😟

Do you think he realised he was being filmed?

The oral sex sign FOR the camera ffs!

Bloke is a meathead despite it being blown out of proportion.  It seems you condone this type behaviour 100% by your responses in this thread.  DO you understand remotely why certain groups, ie women, people with mental health issues may get offended?  It is pretty clear there are genuine groups of people upset for real reasons, don't try and belittle their responses with jargon about outrage for a player who  "thinks" he is being persecuted.

Have seen worse things but no way does it condone his behaviour.

i think you you are actually trolling people to get reactions fwiw.  You "want" disproportionate reactions so you can try and shoot them down with dribble about who should actually be offended.  You should apply to be his spokesperson, he would never play another game lol.

Herald Sun commentator calls out Daisy Pearce for not being outraged enough... Case Closed!! 😔

This whole exercise is an irrelevant sideshow for people who should direct their energies towards more productive activities

De Goey succumbed to outrage and release contrite, yet stage managed mea culpa... 🙄

DeGoey is finished. Bloke did nothing wrong and now spends his days pandering to a rabid media contingent. These blokes need to get back to putting their head down and training for what they’re paid for - playing football. Just ignore the media, they are parasites. A simple “no comment” is always the perfect response.

The spontaneous tweet he issued (clearly without prior consultation with the Club) immediately after the pics getting out is indicative of how he really feels.

The apology video released this afternoon was produced entirely by the Club. It was contrived and every question was answered with a crafted response.
I don’t know why Clubs do this. It’s patently obvious these ‘apologies’ aren’t organic. Of what benefit are they? I see them as an insult to ppl’s intelligence.

Exactly

Coordinated fake response to Coordinated fake attack

The whole episode has been driven by those on the sidelines craving importance and relevance for an agenda totally unrelated to the event

I would have some respect for him had he stuck by his convictions, ie, not caved in, and stayed true to himself. By agreeing to this apology video he’s pretty much lost any modicum of respect since he’s clearly doing for $$$ in terms of his contract value.
Compromised values are of no value whatsoever.

Woke virtue signalling from club reacting to media sensationalism and outcry from the perpetually offended on behalf of others

Classic to see some upper middle aged woman on 9 News lecturing us on how "sick of this" young woman are... Waiting for the release of the statistically significant research to support that statement 🧐

Well said Yeatsy:- most accurate post in this mind numbing thread.

Subject to further off field indiscretions, the media pack's view of whether he is a 'good for footy' bloke or not will be determined by how well he plays from here...

>  Plays mostly very well or better = all is forgiven / top bloke who appears to be completely reformed and back on track.  Clubs circling / Very happy where he is, about to put pen to paper on a lucrative new deal with the Pies.

>  Plays mostly average or worse =  Still has ongoing issues that haven't been resolved and/or likely to resurface.  Needs to reform and continue to work on self development.  Clubs circling / Very unhappy at the Pies, rumoured to be looking elsewhere for less coin.

De Goey is an unprofessional lout and always has been. Remember his lies about his dog biting his hand when in fact he injured it in a bar brawl. I think he was a second year player at the time. He’ll never learn. Trying to use mental health now as an excuse.  He’ll be the talented player, could have been anything, but didn’t have the drive or temperament to realise his potential

But in terms of this incident, he hasn’t broken any law or club rules. The whole bringing the game into disrepute bit doesn’t wash with me. May and Melksham brawling in a Prahran restaurant is a terrible look as well but the ALF took no action there either.

This is not about treatment of women unless you think we should take a paternalistic view of this ladies choices in life. This lady has agency, can make up her own mind, dress how she wants. And socialise with a dh like De Goey if she wants to. Maybe she is a dh as well and they are a match made in heaven. She has said she has no issue with his behaviour. Why are we downplaying or choosing to ignore what she has to say? Isn’t that the definition of sexism.

Anyways, De Goey is not worth the hassle. Could have been re-charging his batteries with a relaxing break but choose alcohol and clubbing instead. No law against it, but shows where his priorities lie. I’m glad he’s Collingwood’s problem.

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
