Ok, I still want to find a way to get Petty to the forward line so I would be up for Tomlinson coming in for Turner. For what it’s worth I still see long term Petty as a defender but sending him forward could shake things up.

They have Daniher 2.01m, Hipwood 2.03m and Mc Stay 1.96cm.   Not to mention Oscar McInerney in the ruck 2.04m.   They will be kicking it in high to their tall timber i50.

Petty is our only tall, tall defender at 1.97 cm.  Just don't see how we can take him out of defence.

And last week they played Darcy Fort 2.04cm as their medi sub.

The only player we have over 2.00m is Ben Brown and he will be busy with Harris who is 2.02m.

Maybe they should consider delivering F50 with those NRL style rugby kicks and get the small forwards to hunt the grubber. Do it a few times and the backline will become a little anxious. Every now and then change it up with a dart to the top of the square, right on BBB's head.

For mine:

Out: Max, Turner, Mitch Brown

In: Tommo, May, Bedford and Weid as Emergency

B: Pig, May, Lever
HB: Bowey, Petty, Salem
C: Brayshaw, Viney, Langdon
HF: Harmes, Tommo, Spargo
F: Kozzy, BBB, Fritta
Foll: LJ, Trac, Oliver
Bench: ANB, Sparrow, JJ, Bedford

Yeah I think if we played Kozzie deep in the forwards and got it in quickly as a ground ball he'd probably snag a few

Damn you make some good points. For all our issues with forward and defence, it’s starts in the midfield and ends (potentially) with them spotting up and hitting leading targets.

Who is helping Jackson ruck? The kid was out of puff every ten minutes last week. He can’t ruck all game

Goodness help us if it's gotta go via our half forward line.

Don't think we'll panic and make too many changes.

Our defence has been pretty solid most of the year, we've been hit with injuries in game where we have had to make do, and that's hurt us. However connection into forward 50 has been horrible. We just bomb it in on Brown's head. I have to admit that is where we are missing TMac, I think he holds our structure up forward, without him, the positioning looks horrible.

However I will say ANB (who I have loved watching in the last 12 months or so) has absolutely been a momentum killer in the last few weeks. We were 20 odd points up in the 2nd quarter, with momentum and had another centre clearance where I think Trac spotted up ANB 40m out directly in front. They bring up on the TV that he ANB has kicked 1-7 from set shots this year, and all he did was add to his behind tally.  Trac up forward has been similar, set shots are woeful and neither is kicking with confidence.

I watched the VFL team, and Rivers was solid behind the ball but his disposal was just ok... which I think is why he was sent back to the VFL. I thought Bedford competed hard all day. Andy Moniz-Wakefield looked good too, and Van Rooyen can't be too far away from a call up to the VFL, but I don't think we'd bring either in against Brisbane.

In: May, Bedford, Weid

Out: Gawn, ANB, Turner

Still going around at Vermont then?

Mitch Brown will surely be dropped, but with Dogga replacing Max and Weid effectively replacing Dogga, leaves us a forward down. Do they debut JVR? VFL form been great but premature to play, don’t want to stifle development.

Or do they play Majak? Or do they throw Petty forward and bring Tommo back??

arggghh tough week at selection. Depth will be tested!

You can only throw at Footscray tdavis.

Gawn out 3-5 So make that 6-7

Well it just has to be Majak doesn't it!!

Neil Balme: "He's three or four weeks away". Meanwhile . . . 12 weeks later . . .

I might get laughed out of the forum, but I’d like to see a different look in the middle. Maybe Brayshaw to be 2nd ruck, similar to Richmond with Shaun Grigg. Just get a contest and get to work on clearance.

Brayshaw and Dogga to swap forward/Ruck

SPC - Special Perception Condition.

Spargo the ideal chop out for Dogga

Surely van Roo(ter) debuts with Max now out

MIght be a D replacing that R in the parentheses if we send him in this early

Going to be some interesting discussion regarding selection for the Lion’s game. In some ways I would prefer this to be an away game so that the team could be together and use that a way to physically regroup.

A few weeks ago, with the game at the ‘G’ I would have tipped us with confidence. Not anymore. We will need to respond, and selection will be critical to enabling that response.

So, My guess…..

B: Hibberd, May, Lever

HB: Bowey, Petty, Salem

C: Langdon, Oliver, Jordon

HF: Harmes, Weideman, Spargo

F: Fristch, Brown, Pickett

Fol: Jackson, Petracca. Viney

IC: Hunt, Laurie, Brayshaw, JVR

In defence we can bring May back and have a strong looking defensive group in the team.

That is an excellent group to have patrolling the back 50. I would also be tempted to bring in Hunt on the IC bench as additional cover with an eye ion possibly moving Brayshaw into the middle if required.

Midfield group also has quality but the disruption of removing Gawn from Ruck duties and not having him reading the game situation and responding will leave a big leadership role to fill.

Forwards seem to be a mess and have been for some time. Injuries and selection have chopped and changed this group and they need to play a time together to work it out.

On the interchange, Hunt Laurie and Brayshaw give a lot of flexibility and I would like to see JVR given a run to have a look at him. Most likely will not happen but you never know.

Was Bowey really that bad last match to be dropped? From what I saw first three quarters he was doing his usual safe job. Does he really deserve the chop?

I'm not in favour of moving Gus from the backline. He has been the best thing about it this year. He saved an avalanche yesterday in the 3rd quarter.  Langdon and Jordon are fine on the wings.

He was also a brilliant defensive wingman last year taking intercept marks further up the ground. I also think he is more polished than JJ who is currently unloading with long bombs into the forward line. I wouldn't be against that move, especially now that Salem is getting some games under his belt.

[censored], I hope our mids are on, good ball inside 50 and they'll be tough to hold, even with our backline.

Let’s just hope it absolutely pelts down with rain and is ice cold and windy.

With our luck we’ll get an unseasonal warm front from the Bahamas with no wind.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
