Some people are thinking when May returns he’ll be a liability to the team like Carey was with his scandal. Not sure how you can compare the two TBH.

So if we get Maysie to fake apologise via an oiled up artistic photograph 📸, can he play Monday?

It would appear a co-ordinated pre-fabed fire extinguisher strat is already well under way.  He is now the victim....leave him alone!

Yep..completely assumed role as victim. Should be able to do as he pleases in his private life. Not a football matter. May and Melky not afforded the same right to privacy. Joke

If Steven May or Toby Greene had a photo like that come out, there would be calls for them to be sacked

Sounds like he is commenting on one of the early (and many) versions of what was said. If so, that’s not wise.

Hmmm. Perhaps, but getting stuck into Smith and then saying to Melksham the effect of ‘what would you know, you play 2s’ is not much better than that whole ‘you play, we lose’ palaver.

Either way, he I usually quite measured and of course, well connected.

Exactly.

I'm happy for the AFL integrity department to investigate.

If any of the players have gold porkies to the club then they deserve their right wack.

The problem with picking and choosing which incident they investigate is they open themselves up to accusations of selective investigations and/or having an agenda.

And if every incident was investigated the players involved in any incident would be less likely to withhold key information.

Has the pig industry adopted Willy Wonka promotional ideas? What do the players win?

Chance May has taken himself down to Casey to watch the 2’s today? Perhaps a thoughtful gesture to show appreciation for a large part of the club he seemingly doesn’t value.

Might be better to show a low profile for the next two weeks.

Very disappointed that Nathan Jones decided to add his two cents. The story was just beginning to die out thanks to Bailey Smith.

Sadly it’s his job now, and as someone who experienced so much garbage at the club and then only just missed out on a premiership I think he’s entitled to an opinion.

You reckon Richo would have said the same about the Tigers, Luke Hodge would have said the same about Hawthorn or Ling about Geelong etc? They’re all in the same job.

He could easily have manoeuvred around  it. “I think Max handled it well” or “I’m sure Steven regrets it”.

He sooks about his sadness again because it’ll get his face in the papers, not because he feels compelled to answer every question honestly behind the mic.

Poor ol' Jonesy.
Should count himself lucky.
Got 2yrs closer to a flag than he should've.

Tell me you know nothing about Nathan Jones without telling me you know nothing about Nathan Jones...

Seriously, WTF?

I feel for Jones. I really do. However, I’ve never quite understood the story of whether he was told he wouldn’t be picked to play in the GF, or whether he made the decision to go home after the prelim because his wife was due. What I mean is, was Jones told by Goodwin you that he wouldn’t be the sub? Or did Jones just go home? I still think he was entitled to play as the sub, but even if he’d been in form at the time, he would have had to choose between the birth of his twins and a Grand Final.

He was told he wouldn't be picked (barring injury) in enough time he could then make the call to head home for kids' birth

He then made the call to head home

Edit:  I would've picked him as sub

I'm sorry have I missed something?

What did Nathan Jones say?

That he took offense to what May said. And fair enough. As I said in an earlier post, fat chance May says what he said to Jonesy.
Yet he’s brave enough to say it to Smith. Very poor behavior.

Got nothing against Jones as a person and loyal servant of our club, and by some responses I get the feeling people aren’t always allowed ‘unpopular’ opinions here (based on the old face palm responses), but I think Bernie Vince (in 2018) and Jordan Lewis (in 2019) had shown more in their respective final seasons to be given one-year contract extensions than Jones did after each of these seasons. Jones’ last 3-4 years were just so-so after he was unbelievable in our dark years. He was no doubt rewarded with new contracts for loyalty, and in actual fact even if he was gifted games to get to 300, it’s probably not a bad thing for the fabric of the club, whilst also giving players around him perspective not to take things for granted.

His comments the other day probably weren’t necessarily, but he’s not an employee of the club anymore, so he can do what he wants - look what Matthew Lloyd says about Essendon almost of a daily basis - I’m almost surprised they let him in their little circle on Friday night 😊

Section 23 of the Summary Offences Act 1966 (Vic) provides a summary statutory offence for ‘unlawful assault’. Unlawful assault charges are heard before the Magistrates’ Court and carry a maximum penalty of 15 penalty units (around $165 per unit) or 3 months imprisonment.

However, in the most serious cases of unlawful assault, a person may be charged with ‘common assault’. Common assault is a criminal offence that arises at common law in Victoria (R v Patton [1998] 1 VR 7). These matters are heard before the County Court and carry a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment.

A person may be charged with unlawful assault if they “unlawfully assaulted or beat another person”. Examples might include threatening to punch someone, hitting another person or spitting at another person. Charges of unlawful assault can be laid even if the victim wasn’t injured.

That begs the question; is there a "lawful assault" defence?

Yes, when the assaulted person is an Essendon supporter. 🤭

He explains it in depth in a recent “dyl and friends” podcast.

Basically knew that the only way he would get a game was via an injury. Pressure from the mrs came the day after the prelim, and he just felt the right thing to do was be at the birth, rather than hang around hoping for an injury and potentially missing both the GF and the birth

Watching Fox Footy before today’s game and just heard that the Dees said it was May who threw the first punch.

Anyone else heard this or am I slow to the news?

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
