Max did such a great job in responding and i can see he's blood is boiling. I am pretty confident that an immense response will be on display on Monday.

All class, doesn’t bite at the journalists (not sure how he controls himself, frankly), manages to put a positive spin on it and all whilst being at turns completely authentic, seriously considerate of the incident, yet wholly Maxy. He is simply unique in football, a playing statesman of the highest order.

Yes, Gawn is an impressive leader, on and off the field. Goodwin? I find his silence thus far on this fiasco a little odd.

I thought it really telling that it wasn’t our Pres, nor our football Manager, nor our Coach that fronted the media - it was our Captain that appeared to put his hand up for this role. To me, that says so much about about the man. No one better in my view.

Max was 100% the right person for this situation. The kids were fighting and it was the leader of the kids that stood up and took responsibility to say that it’s all sorted, we’ll learn from it and move on and respond on the field proving that it won’t derail the mission. 

The parents shouldn’t have been the ones to front the media apologising for the behaviour of their kids promising that they’ll do better next time.

Especially when the grandparents were revealed to be texting things unsupportive of the parents and the kids…

It's not unusual for there to be disagreement on decisions within the hierarchy of a club.  Goodwin would dearly want May to play as he improves the team by at least 2 or 3 goals (in terms of saving goals and setting up goals with his precision kicking)

That's not to say that Goodwin doesn't endorse the decision

Apparently May had a crack at J Smith and Melksham stuck up for him… media really clasping at straws now. 

 

 

Bit of leaking going on but if I had to guess it’s probably getting to the media indirectly through mates. Just my own conjecture. 

Sounds like May has a sharp tongue when he's drinking

We all have a mate who gets mouthy and boorish when drunk. They are not fun to be around. May needs to take a look at himself and how he behaves when he is on the grog. Otherwise he’ll be drinking alone when his career finishes

Deflecting the blame to the media for pouncing on this story is  silly. The fault lies entirely with two seasoned and experienced players who behaved like spoilt brats in a kindergarten. A far better solution would have been to impose extremely heavy fines on both, depending on the exact sequence of words and actions, which we may never really know in full. This would have penalised the culprits, not the team. As it is, if we lose a close game to Collingwood on Monday, it would not be unfair to point the finger at May. Very disappointing all round, but it is up to all concerned to make sure this was just a blip, not a season-defining moment.

Some lessons to be learnt.

1. Team mates should watch out for each other and prevent the breaking of team rules eg. the others should have been able to step in and stop May from drinking and should have stepped in sooner when it became nasty.

2. A strong leader makes all the difference in picking up the pieces. Need not be the coach or admin if the on-field captain is more than good enough.

3. Why are players allowed to drink during the season? Absolute ban is required.

4. Perhaps the club should implement a chaperone system for those who might need it.

5. I realise that this suggestion might infringe on players' freedom but maybe it is time for players to be directed by the club to spend nights out at certain approved and acceptable venues where they can let their hair done in a monitored and controlled environment to prevent occurrences like this.

6. It is time to start preparing for Maxie's successor. Select a small group of younger players and coach them in the dark arts of leadership. CP5, ANB are first nominations.

Whilst Melksham is silly for punching on with May, I feel that hes done the right thing sticking up for teammates and bringing Mays behavior and drinking to a head hopefully.

 

Its embarrasing and obviously we are without two players this week, but it highlights a big issue that potentially has been brewing for a while, May is a [censored] and one that clearly doesnt mind stirring the pot, but clearly too far.

The whole thing is just pathetic and reflects terribly on the club. Senior players drunk and fighting amongst themselves  in the street? Mid season? FFS. May in particular is a fool, and has done a lot of damage. Any repetition and he is done.

I’ve abided by the “if you don’t have anything nice to say…” rule so far in relation to the behaviour of Melksham and May.

I do have something nice to say now, and that’s thank goodness we have our captain. He shoes true leadership, and his method of delivering the message is authentic and believable. Great stuff Max.
