Ok so it did help with freo losing. We are now 3 games clear of them and 2 games clear of brisbane and carlton.

Gee it must be frustrating barracking for hawthorn. They beat brisbane today but 2 weeks ago they lost to essendon.

We now have the best PA (points against) and the third best PF (points for).

MFC 580 PA 938 PF

LIONS 745 PA 1065 PF

BLUES 813 PA 932 PF

FREO 608 PA 780 PF

Second best PF or am I missing something.

Tigers have second best PF. My post may have been misleading as I only posted the top 4.

Can't handle opposite views old dazzle.    He only scores goals when it's down his throat.  System player for a team that chips it around.    He wouldn't be any good in our system of bombing it long and locking it in.   Back to the blocklist.  Can't understand why you came off it

Yeah . . . agree with you ucanchoose. Bit like McKenna, Hudson and Dunstall. Didn't see Coleman . . . but he was probably the same.

We haven't played anyone in the top 4 and only 2 of the top 8 teams. We have a very hard fixture coming home.

I wouldn't have expected us to lose to WCE or North the last 2 weeks...so the last fortnight has taught us nothing other than we make every game a grind regardless of how bad the opponent is.

Will do. But if we start dropping games against semi-decent teams regularly I'm going to keep people accountable for refusing to look at exposed form and sticking their head in the sand.

Will you keep yourself accountable for being wrong about us losing to St Kilda?

Will you come back on here and keep yourself accountable if we don't lose 7-8 of the last 12 games, as you've said we will?

I felt like I said this far too often from 2014-19: being negative/pessimistic is easy. Most clubs don't win the flag, so you can set the bar there and most of the time, you'll be able to say you were "right" all along. But of course, if we do well, no one cares about you, and like Dr D and olisik and others before you, you'll disappear.

And just on the fixture point, two of the sides you keep banging on about as likely to get the better of us are Brisbane and Carlton. Brisbane's played two top 8 sides for a 1-1 record, Carlton's played three top 8 sides for a 2-1 record, and as you've pointed out we've played two top 8 sides (but of course you omitted to mention that we're 2-0 and not seriously challenged in either game).

Don’t you have anything better to do in life than to troll a fan forum being deliberately negative at all costs?

Strange how injuries can change a match , cox stuffed finger , substituted by Henry who sealed it fir the pies kicking goals .

go back a few years qb  game, farmer had a stinker , went to interchange , beames replaced him broke his wrist , farmerwent back on and kicked 9? And won the game

Generally, I like Gleeson's articles but his commentary in this is a bit off the mark the-player-carlton-cannot-afford-to-lose

He may be right in that Carlton can't afford to lose Weitering but he isn't the 'best defender'.  There are a few others around.

"Weitering is the best defender in the competition at the moment. He is as hard to beat one-on-one as any player. He is confident to intercept mark high up the field but also enjoys being the deepest defender. He uses the ball well but likes to share it.

His numbers are fairly mid-table. He is not the most prolific intercept marker and does not pick up the most intercept possessions. He does not tackle crazily. He does not amass volumes of the ball. He is good at spoils – he is third in the league – but it is not the only feature that distinguishes his game. He is a not a player who is quantifiable by stats other than to say he just does not seem to get beaten".

Weitering is a star and he may be Carlton's most important player, if only because their defence is shaky but that does not make him the best defender.

Weitering deserves to be in the conversation with May for the league's best key defender currently.

The media unfortunately seem to have forgotten about May in the discussion.

Maysy will just have to console himself with his Premiership medal, and the fact that every Melbourne supporter adores him.

Gleeson did say May was "elite".

I think the article while debateable about who is best focussed also on weitering 's absolute importance to blues defence which is true.

Whately said this morning that Oliver is so good 45 possessions from him isn't newsworthy anymore.

Same with May. He can't get any better so let's talk about someone else....Weitering.

I think Weitering is least the joint best defender in the comp right now. Performing in a back line with chaos like that all the time is a big deal.

Which is stronger? Adore or Love? For me he is like rain to a farmer after a 10 year drought.

Love means an intense feeling of deep affection.
Adore is similar in meaning, only worshiping factors in.
We all love AND adore Maysy.
Some of us more than others. 🙃

Beveridge has walked back his comments about Naughton's lack of frees last week:

"... the Bulldogs had assessed the vision from the weekend and would not be taking the issue any further".

He had already made his point but don't think he did himself any favours in the credibility stakes.  Not a good year for him so far.

He is a bozo.

Complete deflection tactics from a coach of a side everyone tipped will play off in another granny and they are miles off it.

That is like the "sorry you took my statement the wrong way" apology. It's not an apology at all for a hurtful statement.

In this case Bevo lights the fire, but doesn't put it out, but rather says he will not add any more fuel to it.

What about " I got that wrong:? That would put an end to it.

I think he has gone from being a sensible coach to a [censored].

He's the loosest of cannons.

He cannot control himself when he gets emotional. Like in the Round 1 press conference. One he gets riled up he has an anger management issue and cannot rein himself in.

What's the issue with what he sees as an injustice?

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
