I just want a W and no injuries this week and next. We  need to continue to stick fat with our defensive first stylings and not deviate and start playing Hollywood footy the next 2 weeks.

Save that for September, like 2021?

I didn’t watch Footy Classified this week. Did Ross Lyon say “ I think the Eagles can get it done” in his pre-game analysis ? It’ll be the first time this year he hasn’t said it about our oppo I think.

Almost 300 days and counting since he was last right.

“If the 8 half decent players WC have left play like it’s 2018, all the unheard of WAFL guys are on peptides and the entire Melbourne side have covid x bird flu, I think the Eagles can get it done”.

Definitely Tanking

have believed so for about a month

There was a time around this time a year ago that we got very complacent about our lot in life and we started losing to teams languishing at or near the bottom of the ladder. History surely can’t repeat?

History truly repeating would be losing to North next week to go 9-1 before spanking top of the table Fremantle.

(and beating another top four contender in the Swans the following week before dropping one to Collingwood pre-bye).

It wouldn't be the worst outcome considering how superstitious a lot of sportspeople are.

When I was in Fiji in 2017 we were playing Carlton and it was close. The stream was reliable for the whole match except for the last 2 minutes when the game was in the balance and it was a goal the difference. The steam was buffering and the hotel internet went to [censored]. I couldn’t even get the score online for about 5 minutes after the match.

Apparently we kicked a goal and won by 8 points.

I’d put the blame on Fiji’s internet infrastructure in 2017 rather than WatchAFL.

Apart from that it was great.

Right, cop this.

When I was in the Soviet Union in 1985, near Lake Baikal, a fellow traveller on the Trans Siberian Railway said to me : Melbourne have won. (Fancy making a long distance call from the USSR to Australia to get the footy scores - thats committment).

3 or 4 years ago you wouldn't have been confident & it would be a game we'd drop.

This team should put there foot down & should win by at least 10 goals.

This game is making me more nervous than if we were playing Freo or Brisbane. I could never trust WC to put in a shocker against us.

*cough* I personally cut out all of the Ts and Es and the K and the exclamation mark, including the dot, which is not really a dot, more the size of a dinner plate. *cough*

Do they not trust rookies to cut letters without straight edges?

Truly one of the greatest images of that night, captured exactly what I suspect many of us were feeling at that exact moment.

Not sure if already posted, just read on FB that Josh Kennedy is potentially a late out.

Thanks. I hadn’t even contemplated injuries. Now I’m going to be a mess all day.

I was going to suggest they drop/withdraw the whole team and replace them with their WAFL team but just checked and they were on the bottom of the WAFL ladder. The whole club is screwed. Going to be a long long long way back for them. Heads MUST roll over there.

Sorry, but they're blatantly tanking.

Sure, they look unfit like we did at the top of 2019, but we never rested players like they're doing.

It's absolutely ridiculous. Kennedy out now as well. They don't need to rest players, we'll beat them anyway.

5 - 6 goals ahead at quarter time and then we might even go into lockdown! haha

Not concerned about the team not being switched on as the competition for spots in the team is fierce ... so our lesser-lights (if we have any) could shine today

45 - 60 point victory

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
