Zero second. Efforts.  JVR is closer to a call up

And that is the problem with him and Daw if they are out of reach they don't chase, they stop unless it goes back to them.

Agree re Weid he needs to cultivate an intensity and attitude that it’s his forward line, could have lined up a North defender with a fierce tackle in the 3 and just wandered in…

Hard to teach a nice man to be a mongrel.

If he doesn't have it now he never will.

Weid might be the unluckiest player ever to not get a call up to the seniors if he ends up with a bag of 10

You mean outside of Brian Taylor, Mark Scott and Mark Jackson?

JVR has incredible ground ball skills for a big man. Hits the contest with intensity and gathers cleanly. Good in front of the sticks too. I'd say we have found one here but with Taylor at the helm I think we knew we'd have the goods.

I’m old but I dont go that far back!

I thought Van Rooyen may be a bit small for a KPF but only 1cm smaller than Macca (according to google)

Looks like a great successor for Tmac

Wish he had some like his grandfather Murray he would own CHF but then again I don't think he would play many games the way it is umpired now....

The way Jason Taylor has been  recruiting he will likely  end up a Dees Hall of Famer one day.

That’s not old

Old is when you remember John Peck and Graeme Arthur

Weid kicks 6 and still gets pummeled on Demonland. Of course.

Did you watch?   I could have booked bobbed up on the half forward flank for a couple.    North were atrocious.    As noted, weid doesn't do enough without the ball

Doesn't matter what Weid does, some Demolanders will smack him for something that they perceive he didn't do.

Weid has 10 marks and 20 hitouts, Demoland: 'Oh but he just doesn't hit the scoreboard!'

Weid has 6 goals, Demonland: 'Oh but he just doesn't do enough other stuff!'

Far out.

The Weid is an interesting player. i saw the last half live and was, like a few other posters a little disappointed in his output, and was surprised he kicked that many (6). So why is he marked more harshly than others ?  I think its because he could be so more effective if he started marking a lot of the marks he spills. He gets his hands on a lot of kicks but drops so many....it gets frustrating, probably for him as well.

If he was as good as you say he'd be in the side.  He's not, and there are VERY good reasons at least 3 guys are ahead of him at our club

JVR very impressive. Good mark and his 2nd efforts were very good. His contest and tackle to get the holding the ball in the 3rd quarter showed his potential. Sometimes it’s how you play without the ball that shows your ability. I think he will be managed at Casey this year but is definitely ready to step up if we need him.

Woey jnr also showed his run and composure with the footy.

Bailey Laurie is a small forward (creative half forward) in my view and today showed his ability.  A goal from 55 and another smart snap showed his love for a goal.  Probably shapes as a backup to Spargo at this stage.  But he again is another player who could step up to AFL level if required.

Nowhere did I say he's a gun. The point is there's a ton of Demonlanders who will put him down no matter the output.

Sure, Brown and TMac (albeit only just most of the time) are ahead of him, but who's the third? You're surely not suggesting JVR (who is yet to debut) are you?

Holy smokes what a clunk by Van Rooyen! 🔥

In my training reports Dazz I was super impressed by him for this very reason.🤩

Not being able to get to more than 1 game a year if I'm lucky, I can only watch on TV.  I am pretty neutral on Weid but one thing stands out on TV and was visible again in today's game.  When an opponent has the ball coming out of defence and Weid can see that he won't cut his run off, he makes no effort to do so.  Weid is probably right, he'd wouldn't effect the player 99 times out of 100.  But surely he should always go at him.

JVR bears a remarkable resemblance to The Ox at the same age, both physically and skill-wise.

We’ve got a beauty here

Justice must not only be done but seen to be done.

Mitch Brown, mate.  That's why he's in Perth ahead of Weid

Ok.

Also though, he had 6 goals, 19 disposals, 6 marks and 3 clearances today. Good on him.

Just don't understand why the focus always has to be negative with Weid.

How many games has Mitch played at AFL level this year again?

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
