Great initiative. I know the reaction of some but hope they keep it to themselves.

Not my favourite of the alternative jumpers but watching that video explains why - itโ€™s telling a pretty involved story of the club, the land, the G, and the links between all three. Itโ€™s going to be busy.

Why?

Don't you have a coping mechanism for dissenting views?

The design not up to recent standards. I've loved the past few efforts, but this one? Nah

As far as the name goes. Nope. We should always be the Melbourne Football Club.

The commentators will mostly just call us the Dees/Demons during the call anyway to save the embarrassment. Just like they did with Gary Hocking when he changed his name via deedpol to "whiskas"

Crazy to see so many people getting triggered on Facebook though!!

You're obviously new to Facebook ๐Ÿคฃ

I really like the design, it's definitely busy and not sure how it will look in practice on the field but I love the actual design, the stars in the blue are great

The main reason I would prefer you not bother comparing this to Garry Hocking changing his name is because it trivialises something that means more in the positive to some than it does to you in the negative.

You can call it precious, or call it manners, or whatever, but I just donโ€™t see the need to make it known that you donโ€™t like something that is meaningful to a group of Dees fans that havenโ€™t been embraced in the past.

Great point but I think itโ€™s a group of people that havenโ€™t been embraced in the past, not just Dees fans.

*Hocking did it for personal gain Ie $$$.

I love the new Jumper! looks a beautiful design! honestly the one guernsey i buy each year is our indigenous strip! it's always beautiful and one thing our great club does really well is our respect and celebration for indigenous culture.ย

I love the re-branding and hope that when we next re-brand we consider adopting at least some of these ideas full time.ย

I personally canโ€™t see this happening. It would likely be dismissed on account of being seen as making light of a profoundly important issue. Thereโ€™s a time and a place for sh*ts n giggles, and this isnโ€™t one of them, imvho.ย

I'm not sure that makes any sense at all.

I clearly said it would need to be checked off by the appropriate groups. That isn't sh*ts and giggles, that's respectful.

By adopting the name Narrm, we make it clear we are proud to be associated with this culture.

For our supporters to adopt this language and placename to describe themselves who be as a badge of honour and be promoting it outside of the official indigenous round, demonstrating its importance. It doesn't make light at all.

This is my go to youtube video to play loudly when I'm wasted and feeling particularly proud of our club.

I absolutely love the name change for the indigenous round and am STOKED that we are leading the way across the league with this initiative.

I love it.

So proud of this club and its long standing efforts of embracing our Indigenous heritage and culture.ย

If it wasnโ€™t modelled on the Barmy Army chant, maybe so. Itโ€™s got that whole cheeky larrikin vibe going on. Iโ€™m guessing some may feel it doesnโ€™t befit the occasion.ย
Besides, Iโ€™m not saying it shouldnโ€™t be adopted. Iโ€™m saying I canโ€™t see it being โ€˜checked offโ€™ by those whose feelings on this are of the most importance.ย

This is true. And really well-put. But itโ€™s not to what I refer. The Barmy Army chant is the issue here.ย

Does anyone know if this can be used as our clash? I love our indigenous gurnseys, would like to understand if they can be something more ingrained through the season.

That's for clarifying WCW!

I guess I'm saying that by continuing to use the name in our chants it potentially has the same effect.

I can see the position that Barmy Army related chant might be an issue, and would completely respect that position. I'm not in a position to be able to judge or approve that so would be guided.

Great idea! If not this one, have an indigenous designed clash guernsey for keeps.ย

I reckon all clubs will do this

I'm not sure they can. Clubs named after inner urban Melbourne suburbs, such as Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond are presumably a part of the same land as us and I imagine would also be part of Narrm. Perhaps interstate clubs and Geelong could do it should they choose.ย

It's a great sign of how we're going that any of Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond etc could have got the jump on us and called themselves Narrm before us.

Saints should be able to do it, as Moorabbin is part of Boonwurrung land.ย

We are ALL entitled to an opinion, and thankfully this site allows us to express it provided we don't go throwing abuse at each other.

I think the club (and League) is doing more than enough to recognize our indigenous people and don't think the name change is necessary. Am I getting worked up over it? Not at all, and certainly not as much as you are about someone expressing an opinion you don't like.

Please refrain from asking me to keep mine to myself from this point forward

faulty.

They could use the Aboriginal name for Tiger, Magpie etcย

Narrm has made it into the Cairns Post with a photo of S May.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
