I thought the Saints/Port game was a contender for the worst game of the year. This might be even worse when you factor in the fact that this is the best possible conditions you can play in.

Looking forward to Swans/Lions though to see who the true #1 contender to us is.

Dogs struggling to get away from a pretty average Essendon.

Everyone's waiting for the Dogs to start a fightback to save their season. I'm not convinced it's going to happen.

Right now it seems the best sides in it outside of us are Fremantle, Brisbane and Sydney. That may well be the top 4. Geelong has a whole lot of weapons but can't stop sides scoring. St Kilda and Carlton are 5-2 but neither is convincing.

Bombers are bottom 4

useless soulless club

So if the bottom 2 are West Coast and North, who are the bottom 4?

Essendon and Gold Coast? Adelaide perhaps?

Port and GWS might be finding some form.

Suns finishing bottom 4 will surely cost Dew his job. Essendon finishing bottom 4 might cost Rutten his job.

Swans v Lions is like watching 36 men wrestling in a paddock. It is hardly even football. I like pressure games but this is more like Rugby League with tackle after tackle after tackle. No spectacle at all, and some of the worst field kicking you will see.

So tired of handball (throw) over the head, and so tired of poor goal kicking.

Watching Essendon cop a merciless hiding never gets old. Nor ever will. Go Dogs!

I’ll look for the highlights package of this game just to watch Essendon have goals kicked against them

The Worsfold - Rutten succession plan has been a resounding success thus far.

The SGC is the absolute worst regular-use ground to watch football being played at. I mean, you can't even fit regulation 50m arcs onto it - it's way too small.

I wonder when the lanky guy with the pea head and ponytail due back for Brisbane?

Lion's skill and pressure has broken through the Swans defensive suffocation to  break the game open. They are making the Swans look 2nd rate.

Lions clearly the biggest challenger to us  hipwood back in 2 weeks

Bailey McStay Cameron

McCarthy Daniher Hipwood + Raynor

is easily the best fwd line in the league.

we have them marginally in the midfield and our defence is superior

Different swans in the second half. They obviously got a serious bake from Longmire during the break

Buddy has found a good batch of Voltarin (my favorite drug).

Agreed. Best thing AFL could do is move GWS to Canberra and have Sydney play out of the GWS ground.

Meanwhile Buddy is turning back the clock in the 3rd!

Think the football played today has been pretty good. Pies and Suns had plenty of scoring throughout. Swans and Lions very high energy

But Malthouse says they will be premiers. Maybe he is actually some other sort of …..house.

Lions are proving Sydney aren't quite at the level.

Seeding:
1. Melbourne
2. Brisbane
3. Fremantle
4. St Kilda

Western Bulldogs could make a Grand Final from anywhere in the eight.

It seems most people here think the Geriatric Cats are done... I am one of them 😎

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • POSTGAME: Essendon

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
