So says the MFC website

Well if anyone knows Hawthorn its Yze.....

Edited by jnrmac

We're one of the best placed teams to cover this kind of thing IMO. Goody and Yze are very much a team rather than boss and assistant. Also a great run for Yze who I reckon will be coaching either Port or GWS next year.

If Goody was to get COVID any week - this is it. Yze knows the Hawks well.

Firstly, I hope Goodwin recovers quickly and isn't too unwell during his period of infection. I also hope that he discovered it early and didn't spread Covid within the team.

As a matter of interest, with Goodwin sidelined, does the win/loss result against Hawthorn added to Goodwin's coaching record? Or Yze's? I could see arguments both ways, given that coaching is not just a 3 hour job once a week, but what's the standard that's being used?

Great opportunity for Yze.

I would hate to lose him, but at the same time I would be bloody happy if he was able to snag a senior coaching gig in the next year or two.

Bloke deserves it and is one of the best midfield coach and game day tactician going around in the AFL.

Wouldn't it be better for MFC that Yze stays within the organisation and becomes Goodwin's replacement in 4/5 years?

Absolutely, but Yze is very keen on a senior gig and is ready for one now. I would love that scenario, but I can't see him waiting that long tbh.

Pretty fitting he'll be coaching against the Hawks!

Way of the world these days.

Wonderful thing about our club is the system we've built both on the field and in the coaches box is firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Will be a bit of extra press for this game now with Yze going up against his old club.

If we get a good win (pardon the pun) will the footy shows next week start talking up Ooze as  a possible coach in waiting for 2023?

...and before anyone says anything, yes i need to update my profile name. :)

Agree Roy11 it may just provide that extra edge against the Hawkes and it looks like it is going to be a very wet encounter. I am out of isolation today and looking forward to seeing how Yze (one of my all time favourites) clinches our 7th on the trot. Good luck Adem and good luck Simon, try and take it easy.

I wonder if Yze will coach from the boundary

i reckon choco or richo will take over boundary line responsibilities. Yze will stay in the box as the tactical master mind.

We even have quality depth in the coaching ranks... how good is this.

Doubt it.  We already have Williams there who can fill in for Goodwin and let Yze what he does best in the box.

Please don’t change your username!

It was your username on that magical night in September.

Don’t tempt fate!

Fingers crossed we don't have a more widespread issue with COVID this week or next given Goody could well be a close contact for the whole playing group.

I like that Yze has been the eyes of the operation from the coaching box - not much will need to change I wouldn't have thought, we'd just be missing Goody's clear messaging from the sideline.

In Victoria 'close contacts' no longer need to isolate so players are safe unless they get it.

In a way it’s not a bad thing for a few players coach etc to be going down through the season. Worst result would be an outbreak pre or during  finals . That being said .. get well soon. Good luck to yze.

Yep great system... that was on the cards when football coaches came out and insisted that was best practise for the minority of the population who follow AFL

I don't recall Brett Sutton's advice and clearly a November election is irrelevant as a consideration.

I hope the crowd gets massively behind Adem and when he walks out onto the ground there’s a big “oooooooze” from the MCC.

Get well soon Goody, hope he can kinda take this as a bit of a break. If anyone deserves it it’s him!

  • GAMEDAY: Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

  • PREGAME: Richmond

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
