Richmond supporters on Bigfooty are trying to claim that they lost the game because the free kick count was 20-10 in Melbourne’s favour after quarter time. Dumb lot don’t seem to realise that you have to have the ball to get a free kick!

Even Hardwick said most of them were there and they have to have better tackling technique.

Yeah on social media they are complaining about the umpiring.

People are also saying who have they beaten? No one. Well we can only beat who we are fixtures to play against. I think people are starting to hate us

Exactly 12 months ago we won this game by 34 points with 22 scoring shots to Richmond’s 18 and the lid was off. We were over the moon.
12 months on we won by 22, but had 31 scoring shots to 14.
My we have gotten spoilt.

No. It was shocking kicking for goal.
there was no wind today at all

No doubt. But to win when you’re playing imperfect footy is very important.
Things can’t always go your way.

Thank god we got mark Williams to our club otherwise Clayton would still just be handpassing all the time. Mark showed him how to kick really well. Thankyou

I would guess he might have impacted more than just Clarry here 227.

A few were off tonight coming inside 50 and i also think we instinctively looked to give off far too often to the skinny side when players were free inside both by hand and foot.  Reckon had we taken more of those chances we would have broken them down a tad earlier.

We brought a fair amount of unnecessary pressure on ourselves as a result, more so in the first half.  Some minor adjustments / improvements here during patches of the second half IMV.

Decent amount of work required on that and forward craft/goal kicking this week to ensure we notch up our 14th scalp against the Dawks.

100% agree. But it was still a very frustrating game to watch  It didn’t go our way because we kicked so poorly

I don’t think anyone feels spoiled

Petty has been outstanding in his first two games back. Loved his progression last year but he's gone to a new level so far this season. Easy to see why he's so highly rated internally.

In 2nd Gear all night, tougher in the clinchers, the ANZACS would be smiling down on us.

We can do it any old sort of way, we will grind until the day is long.

Up you mighty [censored] Dees.

13 and counting the streak continues.

Keep rollin, rollin, rollin.

No love for Langdon??? I thought he was second best on ground tonight after Oliver. Brayshaw couldn't speak  more highly enough of Ed on radio after the game and said that Langdon is one of the most crucial players in the team which we all know, but still nice to hear.

Credit to our backline... May, Smith and a few others got heavy hits early and still played out the game. There will definitely be some sore guys for the next few days. May played the entire game on one leg with a bad corkie. What a trooper!

There are a few differences from last year:

1) we have a shortened preseason and teams that have a shortened preseason tend to take a month or so to hit peak form. I thought we hit it last week but today inaccuracy took the shine off.

2) we are hunted every week. Coaches are trying to figure out how they can beat us. Extra person at the contest? Leaves May/ Lever behind the ball and we burin from d50 (GWS). Even numbers at d and contest. Deal with our AA centre line and first rate contest work Suns Tigers).  when those don’t work, turn it into a scrap and make it ugly(Port , Dons)

It’s because teams are [censored] scared of losing so they go into ultra defensive mode, making games a total bore fest. We aren’t challenged so we just put on a clinic for 10 minutes and carry on with the win. GWS are lazy and gave up after halftime so that was fun.

I bet that when we play the Saints in 2 weeks it’ll be a totally different game. Good sides will back their system in. We haven’t played a side yet who would have gone into the game backing themselves to win it with their own game.

Also who cares how we play in April if we keep winning. Last year we also won by small margins but winning was a novelty so you went back and watched that 25 point win and was like “wow a win”. Now you’re like “I watched us kick 3 goals in 46 seconds once. I’m bored”

Tonight was my 9 year old nieces first game of footy. I almost sent her home at half time for fear that Children and Family Services would be called.

It was ugly, and then we flexed for 10 minutes and it was over, and then it was a terribly boring last quarter. Strange game.

And then after it was all over the crowd was again very subdued - like everyone expects us to win.

Ugly ugly win

9 goals 22

192 handballs - overused it and created pressures

but our defence is A+++

I agree with this.

Of the 22 behinds how many were missed set shots and how many were  missed shots in play? Tigers tried their best to keep themselves in the game through the pressure they applied when they didn’t have the footy.

Let’s not get carried away, 19 goals 6 last week. 10 goals 2 in the 3rd and at one stage 8 straight from 10 inside 50’s. What happened tonight will be addressed by the coaches as we move onto next week’s game.

I snuck into the Rich reserved seated area and had an enjoyable evening.
They were up and about early, loved the umps but boy did things turn for them and how enjoyable (relaxing) it was to know the turn was coming but just when…. Who this time will swing it… the defence will slow/ stop them and then who will swing it fwd for whoever to snag them. What a team, tell them to enjoy it, relax we’ve got this, ugly is a beautiful win we didn’t have and we’ll not ever kick badly on goal again.
What a time to be alive.

Give them a shot. I've rewatched every game except the Gold Coast game and they are all great gritty wins and much easier to enjoy knowing the result.

Pretty pathetic if that is the case that they all would rather loose in the most drawn out way possible than put it all on the line and see if they can match us

It's fun if you like contest and defence.
I find watching teams struggling to kick scores against us particularly entertaining.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
