If you are making a best team of the last 40 years more than half of that would have played tonight I reckon.

I know Trac is Trac, but seriously Oliver is just as good at what he does. His hands are the best in the game.

Honourable mentions;

Luke Dunstan

Harrison Petty

Steven May

Trent Rivers

Alex Neal-Bullen

Sam Weideman

Adjudication;

No real concerns nice to on the right side of the ledger.

Overall;

Kicking for goal yips have reached pandemic proportions. Too many blokes wearing odd rights and lefts. Fire the boot studder!

OLIVER

PETTY

GAWN

MAY

BRAYSHAW

SPARROW

Just got home and haven't seen a replay so going off my recall of the game and the ringing in my ears of the Tiger fans around me.

The Tiger fans were most appreciative of Oliver and Gawn - apparently there is no kryptonite for either, although Nankervis tried very hard.  They were ecstatic that Tracc had not much influence.

Both are supremely fit.  Eventually they just run the legs off anyone who tries to stop them.

I feel like reporting this post. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if Oliver was 2nd best on ground - I know nothing about football.

HMs...

Tracc, Dunstan, Fritta (possibly just ahead of Weid overall but Weid made the most of limited forward opps early IMV and kicked accurately throughout), Petty (mostly second half) & Gawn (mostly first half).

Oliver - in the best ever of Red and Blue, we are witnessing greatness.

Gawn - started on fire, and just kept going, 2nd best if not best game of his this year.

Petty - His best game in Red and Blue, I never thought he was going to become as good as he has. Kudos to all those that predicted it, hat off.

Brayshaw - flawless performance, wouldn't be surprised if he snuck a Brownlow vote

Langdon - Bit unfair, as Sparrow/Spargo/Harmes all did excellent defensive efforts.

Petracca - still had a great night, just because he wasn't BOG doesn't mean he should fall off the votes. Please don't take him for granted.

Hon mentions:

Weid - one more contested mark and I would have given him a vote, although I think when he kicked the 5th goal he showed his clutch ability, massive effort at 4.16

May - his efforts in the 4th when the game was in the bag demonstrates leadership, would dearly love to buy this man a beer.

6 Oliver, 5 Gawn, 4 Sparrow, 3 May, 2 Langdon, 1 Brayshaw

That's OK. Some don't have May in their top six. :)

    Melbourne have held talks with Clayton Oliver and they’ve laid out where he fits in under Steve King’s vision and been frank about expectations. Oliver is still under contract for five years, but the door is open if he wants to explore his options elsewhere.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

    It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

    The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

    The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
