Imagine what could be done with that money…….full time umpires, grass roots investment, Tassie team, the list of ‘best for the game’ options likely to be ignored goes on.

Interesting to see how this fits in with government anti siphoning laws, More so for the tier B events.

Both major parties went very quiet on this before the election.

I'm interested to know, might contact my local member about it.

The anti siphoning laws are ridiculously out of date anyway, especially since streaming came onto the scene.

America has 300m people and 32 nfl teams… that’s 1 team per 10m people. Australia has 1 team for every 1.5m…

please tell me how 19 teams is sustainable?

Agree 100%!

The number one priority should be investment in grassroots football.

If we don't do this then Aussie Rules Football will begin to die.

We also need full-time umpires and an AFL Team in Tasmania and eventually Northern Territory. The ACT shouldn't be forsaken too...but that's another story where we missed an opportunity in the early 1980's.

Lastly, and this is wishful thinking, but we should ask the AFL for $100 million so we can build a home base. The Melbourne Football Club will be left behind if we don't have state of the art training facilities and and an administration centre built in the near future. Especially with Hawthorn building their new $120+ million home base in Dingley.

The Good News is that the AFL, Channel 7, Fox (Kayo) and Telstra now have 9 years to get the product right and that should be good for our Code.!!

These broadcast prices simply do not stack up

Foxtel has separated its sports product from its entertainment product Kayo and Binge so the traditional loss leader arguments no longer work.

Unless the Kayo product is changed enormously.. increased monthly sub... occasional pay per view ($5 for Anzac day match for example) and of course ads.

Hopefully the camera and streaming quality is improved

Foxtel to have its own commentators and graphics for all games from 2025.

So you don't have to put up with the mistake riddled BT from that point onwards.

Boy oh boy wowee do I hope they use this time to invest in commentators that don’t want to be ‘personalities’.

so, an increase of 35% per year

curious to see that translates to club afl-paid revenues and cap sizes

Surely that's the thinking.

Possibly more money than anticipated...meaning more available to be spent on players...meaning higher salary cap...meaning Luke Jackson can be accommodated within the MFC budget.

Of course, the flaw in the argument is that the salary cap goes up for everyone, so Luke Jackson's contract could probably be accommodated within any club's budget, although any other club would have to offer more than he's likely to get from the MFC.

I'm not sure what you are meaning here, but my take was that you couldn't syphon off major sports to a pay service. Streaming is a pay service...I have a feeling that people who can't afford even Kayo are going to be further shafted by this deal.

...no one is looking after the man on the street.

streaming was not included in the anti siphon legislation for the simple reason it wasn't thought of at the time. The rules relate only to cable networks.

The catch is that Labour said and the LNP quietly warned that if the broadcasters took advantage of streaming to avoid the "spirit"of the anti siphoning rules the legislation might be amended to include streaming

They also share that population of support with another 32 NHL teams, 30 NBA teams, 30 MLB and 28 MLS teams. And that's just the other major codes.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
