Maybe I missed it but I never heard the AFL say that players can’t question decisions.

You can ask for clarification but you can’t question the decision (ie, complain about it).

The first asks for further information about what the umpire’s decision was (eg, “was that a mark?”) and the other one is expressing disagreement with the decision (eg, “that wasn’t a mark”). You can disagree but you can’t openly express that disagreement.

Just get on with the game. Easy.

Just don't complain about the decision.

Put your ego away and stand the mark like a good team mate, rather than be a selfish individual.

I get your point but it's easier said than done.

It's also seems too subjective.

What about how Viney shakes his head.

Umps make bad calls and it's very hard to keep mum.

What about asking “didn’t that hit the ground?”

So if he asked “didn’t that hit the ground first” it would be ok?

I agree that it might be hard, which I do in my own matches. But that is just because I’ve grown up in an environment where openly questioning the umpire was perfectly acceptable, so I do it sometimes. If I grew up in a time where nobody did that because they’d get free kicks paid against them then I’m sure I’d be shutting up.

If a 150kg prop forward in rugby can not complain to the referee, or a 50kg wing attack in netball can not instinctively complain in two of the most ridiculous sports ever created …. then I’m sure we can do it too.

Curiously along with Shetland they are the only constituency in Scotland that always votes Liberal Democrat at every election, resulting in absolute fannies like Alistair Carmichael representing us at Wasteminster.

Is that where Capt Mainwaring went for his honeymoon?  'It was a cold and lonely place.  There was absolutely nothing to do so i learnt to play the bag pipes'.

The umpire dissent rule adjudication is beyond pathetic. That 50 for pointing at the ground was possibly the lamest thing I’ve ever seen on a football field, and I sat through the Neeld era!

If that’s where the game is headed, then supporters will rightly be switching off.

St Kilda have lifted this quarter. Pressure gauge well up

But GW$ just have no spirit: loads and loads of talent but poorly coached, poorly administered, or poorly lead on the field (or any or all combinations of this).

Dad's Army?

I wonder how New Zealanders fare when they go up there? I can't imagine the locals take too kindly to being called Sh!tland Islanders.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w
