SACK GOODWIN amirite?

Far out. The bar has gone through the roof with some of you people. It was a good, strangling win. Not great, not particularly exciting - the Jordon touch on the line was the only time my heart rate got above resting, but we got the job done.

I'm just waiting for someone to say we're the worst 4-0 side of all time or something.

Spot the f on.

I mean c'mon, that is the sort of win the great hawks sides during their premiership run and the lions in theirs  strung together.

They deliberately tried to suffocate the game, as did the bombers last week. Because they both clearly felt thst was their only chance of being close to competitive.

Two finalists from last year start a game of football knowing they have zero chance of beating us with THEIR OWN game plan.

That is the mark of a great side.

And please, if I read one comment along rhe lines thst the lions will destroy us playing like that my head will explode.

The goal is top 4. Percentage does not matter when you win as many games as we will this season.

Not so sure. Forward line needs work and bbb back asap.  Others are just going.

Premiership standard defence safely in place.

Fritta and Harmes about the only guys that looked really dangerous and in control down there.

Kozzie just summed the club up "It's all defence really."
Defence wins flags and we defend very, very well.

Also, that was some terrible umpiring.

There were so many instances of the players from both sides having no idea who the free kick had been awarded to.

Also, the decision to pay a mark to Drew after it had clearly bounced in and out of Viney's hands may well be the single worst umpiring decision I've ever seen.

(But the two deliberates against us for moving the ball forward, but then not paying it against the Port player who picked the ball up in our forward line in the fourth and just walked over the line, that was also bad).

Have really liked the start to the season that some of our second string mids/runners like Brayshaw, Viney, Harmes, Jordan, Sparrow are putting together.  Clarry and Trac still the beasts, but good that they can have a slightly down game by their high standards and others have been standing up.

Goody in the presser;

'I couldn't be prouder of the group' tonight

So much wrist slitting.

We conceded 35 points

We are 4 and 0

Plenty of people have short memories, not long ago we were rubbish.  This was a complete defensive effort

People are complaining?

That was beautiful to watch, our defensive structures are so sound both Essendon last week and Port tonight had NFI what to do.

Clinical, once our ball movement starts clicking watch out.

Might not have been too pretty going forward, but we are arguably the best defensive team in the history of the game.

Pondered that myself at the time and I think you could well be right.
A dead set shocker.

Poor old Port are suffering a bit of an injury crisis at the moment and are hoping to bolster their list by recruiting some players from State leagues.

I believe they are particularly interested in Nat Fyfe's younger twin brothers.

Should they lose to Carlton next week, expect to hear a lot about Owen Fyfe and Norton Fyfe.

Always enjoy winning the first game of the round, can just sit back, relax and watch the other teams bash each other.
Defensively we were outstanding, 50 odd up some were still chasing and smothering.

‘Junk time’ goals happen, couldn’t be happier with how we’ve started the season.

Frustrating that the scoreboard didn’t reflect our dominance but if you offered me a win against port in Adelaide to go 4-0 to start the season I’d be pretty wrapt.

Up the dees!!

Good to see.

One player who has the skill to deliver a lot of upside. Needs to hit the scoreboard more often

Gus kicked 3 goals for the year last year.

That run-up put Benny Brown to shame there, @Demonstone!

We conceded 35 points because they did not kick straight if they had it would have been far different, we only had 2 scoring shots more than they did and they had a whole range of good players out. I must say i was disappointed we did not do better. definitely some good defense and running but our entry into the forward line was pretty disappointing. We showed such dominance at times but could not put it on the score board, that is where it counts.

They had 1 goal until halfway through the last quarter didn't they? We destroyed them.

[censored] you Melbourne. That was a trash display of footy.

Had the opportunity to really put the foot down but instead we tried to be too cute with our ball use going forward. 3 weeks in a row now that we've just played sloppy and let opposition back into the game.

Are McDonald and Weideman actually for real?? 2nd week in a row where they've had opportunity to cement their spot while Brown is out and both failed miserably.

Both could barely give a contest or bring the ball to ground. Sooner these two are phased out for good the better.

Petracca is a star and all but [censored] hell he's sloppy and selfish at times.

Thank God for Steven May.

“F you Melbourne”? Seriously? You’re talking about the best team in the comp who are playing exactly the same way we did to start last year? And we are 4-0? Muppet.

Watching Port tonight felt like watching us 8-9 years ago.

At some stage it would be nice to see us do to a team what Brisbane did to nth last week. We really should have won by a lot more tonight.

Now onto the girls big game on Saturday and it would be nice to get the same result.

At the end of the day, we haven't played well and are 4-0. Yes a lacktlusture last quarter but we've banked it now and can move on with our life.

Happy we won.  But that would have to be up there with the single worst game of footy I've seen, purely from an entertainment point of view.

I've seen plenty worse and we were often on the other end of it. [censored] me some of you people are fickle. That was an outstanding display from our end I loved every minute of it.

They're playing better IMO.
They know exactly what they're doing and when they're supposed to be doing it.
I said in the gameday thread that watching the defensive structure move around the ground is like looking at art.

The goal should be top 2. I want 3 finals at the MCG please. Percentage shouldn't be a concern if we keep winning

I missed the game because I went to see Moulin Rouge! The Musical, but when I checked the score once the show was over PA was 1.8.14 halfway through the last quarter? It may have been ugly but it seems like we won just like wvery other game this year, barely getting out of second gear and still never looking like losing.

I'll watch the replay when I get a chance but it seems like we did all we had to do to get the 4 points and nothing more, which is perfectly fine in April. The season is a marathon, not a sprint, and at this time of year all we need to do is win. Go Dees

Edit: good to see Maxy seemingly BOG, Lever slotting straight back in and Fritta with 3. Looking forward to seeing JJ's game after the praise he's receiving here too

Edited by Demon4Life

I was one lamenting the end to that game, then I composed myself - we're 4-0 having beaten a grand finalist, a preliminary finalist, and another finalist from 2021 in those 4 rounds...footy life isnt too bad :)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
