So much wrist slitting.

We conceded 35 points

We are 4 and 0

Plenty of people have short memories, not long ago we were rubbish.  This was a complete defensive effort

We conceded 35 points because they did not kick straight if they had it would have been far different, we only had 2 scoring shots more than they did and they had a whole range of good players out. I must say i was disappointed we did not do better. definitely some good defense and running but our entry into the forward line was pretty disappointing. We showed such dominance at times but could not put it on the score board, that is where it counts.

But won me a pineapple as I backed them to win in the 25-42 point range

Yeap and reality is Port  Adelaide are totally stuffed. Motslop gets a half dozen possesions kicks 2 goals and retains his place in their shizzen team. Thats there problem GARBAGE SIDE

[censored] you Melbourne. That was a trash display of footy.

Had the opportunity to really put the foot down but instead we tried to be too cute with our ball use going forward. 3 weeks in a row now that we've just played sloppy and let opposition back into the game.

Are McDonald and Weideman actually for real?? 2nd week in a row where they've had opportunity to cement their spot while Brown is out and both failed miserably.

Both could barely give a contest or bring the ball to ground. Sooner these two are phased out for good the better.

Petracca is a star and all but [censored] hell he's sloppy and selfish at times.

Thank God for Steven May.

Percentage won't matter if we never lose again.

We clearly put the cue in the rack at the end of the game, and if you don't believe that, Ed Langdon was on the bench at the end of the game.

Yeah I knew we were done when Eddy came off. It was all over.

Looks like we were playing the long game season-wise that game. Idling or 1st gear for most except that quick burst of 6 goals or so in the first half.

Happy we won.  But that would have to be up there with the single worst game of footy I've seen, purely from an entertainment point of view.

Did enough to win, amazing defensive effort but the forward line (and kicking into it) needs a lot of work.

When we killed them off it was because our kicks forward were long and deep and out their backline under pressure.

It’s a massive shame we lost a lot of percentage in the last quarter

We are a good side now. Our defence all over the ground was great, and we ran the game out. I will take 4-0 any time. Even though our system continues to be a bit clunky and imperfect, we win and win well.

I hated the feel of our play in the last 15 minutes - looked like they absolutely switched off.

Some signs emerging that our forward 50 play needs an efficiency upgrade.  A LOT of ineffective, sloppy forward entries.

Brilliant win. I didn't for a second feel worried throughout the entire match. There's no point in complaining about the last 15 minutes. Beating a side by 5 goals in front of their home crowd is always an accomplishment in my book.

Gawn was absolutely phenomenal. He's looking like himself again. Harmes continues to silence his doubters. His last two games have been excellent.

Hated it to be honest. yes 4 points and no injuries.

so much to dislike

forward entry’s and structure

Pickett undisciplined

slow boring football not good great in prime time slot

Yeah I thought we were poor leading into tonight, but it was a slow grind tonight, and I think we’re probably on the up now. The majority of last year our forward entries weren’t great, but we were winning. It was only in the last few games of the season we got it right and didn’t look back. I think we’ll get it right earlier this year. We are coming good now.

SACK GOODWIN amirite?

Far out. The bar has gone through the roof with some of you people. It was a good, strangling win. Not great, not particularly exciting - the Jordon touch on the line was the only time my heart rate got above resting, but we got the job done.

I'm just waiting for someone to say we're the worst 4-0 side of all time or something.

Burn the tapes of that one.

Backline very good.

Midfield patchy, credit the fringe guys who cleaned up after the big names consistently.

Forward line very messy.

This is exactly what we were saying this time last year.

We were 50 points up with 10 minutes to go.

We're coming off six day breaks including two trips (from GC, and then to Adelaide).

We gave Langdon a rest on the bench late. That tells you all you need to know - we were not busting our gut completely late.

We were dominant. Yes, disappointing we didn't blow them to pieces and there were a few frustrating moments, but we toyed with them. Now we're 4-0 and we've already ticked off two interstate trips.

May outstanding (but for that late dropped mark), loved Jordon's game, Gawn found form, Brayshaw put in another great game in defence, Harmes was solid and Lever got through well.

Neither Weid nor TMac were any good. I don't mind who gets dropped for Brown, but there should be no doubt that one goes. Pickett is doing a lot defensively but just cannot get in form with ball in hand. And I'm still not convinced by Hunt.

Bowling shoe ugly.

I usually write lengthier reviews, but I want that match out of sight and out of mind.

I’ll take the four points, but a spectacle of entertainment it was not. My attitude to this match was similar to Homer’s retrospective approach to the shortcut to Itchy and Scratchy Land.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
