I love TMac for his perseverance and willingness to change things up, but like all of us he's getting older. But imagine this, given our current backline woes. TMac is on the bench, is the swing man, either forward or back - as we need him, but Weid now has to stay. Great win tonight Dees. Wasn't pretty, but we won comfortably in the end. It was not all that long ago, we would have got overrun and lost this one. Not tonight though. We are the Demons of old, but also Brand New. Go Demons!!!! When the Dee’s are switched on, we are simply too good for any team. We will not play too that standard as often as we supporters would like, but as good teams do we persevere with structure and team first. Player form is fickle as is the bounce of the ball in our game. I’m bloody happy with any win thx. Gus, bog just beats Clarry, Viney was viney, Weid, rapt for him, and the rest were workman like with a few mistakes, 4pts 👍. Tom Mac is an important cog so rotating him off the bench fwd and back is a good idea i’va, 2 Quote

A big fat happy zero. 😁 Or did you mean 30% of a beer? Coz yeah, about that, I lied. I had two beers. 😬 But I had to since I was there with Essendon fans. They’re my friends but I hate them when we’re playing their piece of sh*it team. The beers take the edge off. 😁 Edited April 1, 2022 by WalkingCivilWar Quote

Guest Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I swore I’d never become that type of supporter: the type of one who was blasé when their team won. Back from 2014 to 2016, I’d often watch highlight packages of our wins 2 to 3 times during a week. A Demons win would have me walking on air. I’m glad we won for sure. Don’t get me wrong. But I’m not ecstatic like I was back in the day. Positives were Gus’ insane 20 marks across half back. My respect for that bloke from 2018 onwards has been immense. In an ideal world, he’d probably want to play in the guts and has shown he can do so as his 2018 showed. However, his willingness to play any role makes him real heart and soul. We are getting close to applying that rhyme they used to apply to Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson to our very own Tracc and Clarry: Ashes to ashes, Dust to dust, If Petracca don’t get ya, Oliver must Tracc was serviceable by the standards of mere mortals (and I believe that he had a run with player). The problem is that leaves Clarry with a huge green light and he was superb. The bloke’s ability to stand up in a tackle, get his hands free or the ball on his boot is something I’ve never seen before. Tracc has brute strength but it’s mostly around his core and hips. Clarry just seemed to have stringy muscular arms that can get out of anything. Of course, full commendations to Weed. His time is now. I think Tomald, despite having a career rebirth for most of 2021, probably knows himself the sand is running through the hourglass. While I won’t write him off just yet, if we can have a player who runs the patterns like he does but can also jag some goals as well, then the choice is obvious. The difference between Weed tonight and Weed last year was that when he dropped marks, it was usually in a pack or on a fast lead with a player up his ginger. The spillage then played into our hands. That he also took some handy grabs and kicked some sausages when required to didn’t hurt either. Good regulation win. We’ve got a similar assignment to this week against Port in Adelaide next week. Hopefully, BBB and Lever can get back and our start to 2022 can set up a top notch September ala 2021. Quote

As soon as Petty or Lever are back Smith goes back to VFL. He just does not have a football brain despite his elite athleticism imo…Sam Frost Version 2 We must have watched different games. I thought Smith was excellent. Even when caught out of position he manages to have an effect. He is really improving as he gets done continuity. 9 minutes ago, Gorgoroth said: Park the win Lads, Ladettes and non laddles We are no where near cherry ripe, we are coming up to week one of the pre season. We are 3-0 Hunt and aviney clean tonight which was a positive. Kozzie has a nearly game for the first 3/4 and most of the last but he caused two shots on goal in the last, Spargo similar. We didn’t capitalise yet win by 29 in the end. I can’t let this go by. Hunt was an absolute disaster area for the second week in a row. He couldn’t hit the side of a barn with a field kick and right in front of me in the back flank he turned his back on Langdon in the middle of a one, two handball chain and lost the ball. He is hopelessly out of confidence and form. 2 Quote

The heart beats true 18,201 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Just got home from the ground. The last time I watched a live game vs Essendon at the G we got beaten by 100+ points. So the win was nice. I think we looked flat at times and really sapped our own momentum with poor kicking for goal, but our commitment to team defence and the hard work it takes to execute it is elite. We really work hard for each other. It’s good to support a team that has a definitive game plan and executes it regardless of the cattle. The other thing that’s fascinating is going to games where we win and opposition supporters aren’t annoyed by our victory. It was oddly calm walking out of the stadium - as if it all went to script. 9 1 Quote

Demon Disciple 12,536 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Only 44k at the game tonight, which was very poor imo. Hoped for more Dees fans at the game, but we had to have 25k (closer to 30) in the crowd . Dons fans soft and turning toes up at season already (marvellous) 2 Quote
rpfc 29,027 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 That was an impressive win. So many down and we just kept coming and when they opened the game up we said - ‘thanks for that’ and torched them. Oliver, Smith, Brayshaw, Harmes, Langdon, and Weideman were great and the rest just went. Gawn looks sore. 6 day break, and with a lower leg strapped - we need to keep Jackson… To those that say this felt like a loss - you are kidding yourself. Wait till we lose and tell me how you feel. Well done to the team and the FD to keep them patient and piercing. 7 Quote
Adam The God 30,730 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Happy with the win. Move on straight away. Oh and that was probably Weid's best game. I'd play him ahead of Tom McDonald next Thursday. Clarry, Gus and Lingers best on for me. 3 Quote
Adam The God 30,730 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 (edited) And I hope Essendon spend years in the wilderness. I'd really like Carlton to join them. Edited April 1, 2022 by A F 4 4 1 Quote

dl4e 5,851 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 Essenscum did to us what we have done to many sides over the years. They dragged us down to their level. I thaught the standard very poor from both sides but at least we have learnt the caper of winning even when we are not playing well. Essenscum are completely shizenhausen which for me is a real positive. 4 1 Quote
WERRIDEE 5,638 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 I thought our first half was terrible really let them in the game when we should have been further in front. The second half was a lot better. We need to be better if we want to be a top 4 side. We definitely haven't hit our peak yet just doing what we have to do. Kudos to Weideman thought he was cooked after the VFL game but he proved me wrong great game would have been even better if he kicked straight early. Quote
dazzledavey36 56,334 Posted April 1, 2022 Posted April 1, 2022 One thing that hasn't been mentioned and was the absolute highlight for me. Tom Sparrow's game saving tackle on Jake Stringer in the centre. Essendon had momentum and Sparrow stopped him right on his tracks. 23 2 Quote

He has some tank and is always buttering up / presenting when the chips are down. While maybe not THE most talented player in the team, the bloke has amazing grit and character and never takes a backward step. Don't underestimate the hurt factor either. He hits & tackles hard and other players know he's about. Hard as a cats head & built like a tank. 13 1 Quote
