Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

For obvious reasons I watched none of the Hawks Port game and I assume nobody here did either.
But what happened? Port bad? Hawks good? And how long does Hinkley have left?

I’m watching it now, (only in the second quarter), Hawks pressure is up and just like everyone else they’re playing our style. They look pretty quick and players have obviously got a new lease of life under Mitchell. Hawks getting goals every 18 disposals… port every 60. Hawks look more organised around the ground compared to last year.

Right now it looks like Hawks are playing freely and Port look a bit stilted?

Port not taking their goal opportunities…

I'm sure everyone expected Hawthorn to be on top of the ladder and Port to be on the bottom.

Wonder what happened in that game.

1. Port soft as butter

2. I saw a stat in the second half, Hawks from set shot 13 goals 0 behinds

Just finished, Hawks played very well. Backs intercepted constantly, forwards kicked 13.0 from set shots which is absurd and their pressure was excellent. Hawks look to have figured them out a bit.

Hawks have a good foundation to build upon from here… but they’ve only played North and a Port side that has a lot of improving to do. Port look predictable going forward and I don’t think they respond to teams pressuring them, they look to wilt and not be able to wrestle back momentum.

Might have a coach sacking happening soon.

They have missed finals on multiple occasions when senior players in their peak. I would have sacked him years ago. Decent coach but not getting the job done

I must admit that jeremy cameron bloke finds some very innovative ways to stuff up.

Is he over rated?

Compared to his pay packet… we’ll and truely over rated. He hit a ceiling at GWS and he slide  since, has some moments but for his size and speed he should be a 50+ goal kicker each year. 10 seasons prior to this he’s kicked over 50, 3 seasons ago was the apex at 76.

To be eligible for nomination, the player must be under the age of 21 at 1 January that year, and have played ten or fewer AFL games as of the start of the season. A player can only be nominated once per season; if a player is suspended during the season, he may be nominated, but will not be eligible to win the award.

I ask " Why not" ?   He qualifies.

So far not much competition for this week's nominee.

But the powers who vote these things probably figure he has a premiership medallion and there are more 'glamorous' players this year.  They like it when a top 5 pick wins rather than a pick in the 20's albeit would make a better story.

Would Bowey care?  Nup!!

They’ll give it to either Daicos or Horne Francis regardless of form. Gotta get the big names rewarded 🙄

Bowey I’m sure is devastated as he polishes his premiership medal

Winning scores so far:

  • Carlton 16.6 vs Bulldogs
  • Swans 17.5 vs Geelong
  • Collingwood 15.10 vs Crows
  • Lions 15.7 vs Essendon
  • Hawks 19.6 vs Port
  • Demons 12.10 vs GCS

It looks like phenomenally accurate kicking by the victors (not so much the dees).  To me the goal efficiency above looks like poor defence, especially fwd and midfield pressure to allow such scores.  It is not just the number of goals, when very few points are kicked imv it says there is little pressure inside d50 on the ball carrier coming in or when the ball hits the ground near goal.

Some of the winning teams:  Pies, Hawks and Carlton have easy draws by virtue of the 2021 ladder position which will help them this year.  I'll wait 'til they play some of the better defensive teams to see where they sit.

Is there such a thing as a 'pressure' ladder?

Hawks have adopted a fast, spread game, that older slow teams struggle with. They also have an in form couple of key forwards and a couple of small forward goal sneaks and  that helps.

While we had a lesser defence they had King and Rankine out so they weren't able to take advantage of our weakness.

They also played on a 6 day break and a flight back from Perth.

Under the circumstances they did exceptionally well.

A Swans fan marked Buddy's 1,000th goal and excitedly left the stadium but lots of vision of him appeared in social media and the Swans implored the fan to give it to Buddy in return for personally handing the ball to Buddy at training.

After the social media vision he may not have had much choice but kudos to the guy for giving it back.

Saturday’s social media post.

I will say one thing

I am not suprised to see Port start so badly. That Preliminary Final performance from last year doesn’t lie.

Hawthorn had a day out vs Port. If they can kick 13.0 from set shots each week props to them, but history tells us they can't and won't repeat that weekly.

Collingwood's two wins are nothing to write home about; pedestrian wins over St Kilda and Adelaide. To be fair, Carlton's beaten a top 4 and top 8 contender, and Hawthorn's beaten...well...I don't know what to call Port Adelaide this year.

Sydney probably has the best resume so far, with wins over GWS and Geelong.

As I said, I think it is all to do with lack of opp pressure for the likes of Coll, Hawks, Ess and to a lesser extent Carlton.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
