Sharing-time (again) Humour me please

Yeah so last Friday I had a routine mammogram. Monday I got the call no one ever wants to receive: they think they “saw something” on the imagining. Tuesday back to Melbourne Private for anothery. Was told to expect the results Thursday (today). Didn’t tell anyone, loved ones, friends etc., not a soul. Having to tell them the cancer may have returned is actually worse than telling them it has returned. 😞

So, last night I was effectively Schrodinger’s Cat, if you will, in that I had breast cancer and at the same time, I didn’t have breast cancer. 🙃🙂

SOOOO happy and relieved to have just received the all-clear! 🥳

(Almost 😉) as happy and relieved as I was to have watched our beloved Dees do us all proud last night.

#NotToday,Cancer.NotToday!

Note to self: you may need to take stock of your life. What does it say about you that you tell a motley bunch of randoms on a fan forum the great news before you tell your loved ones??? And “I just happened to be on Demonland when I got the call” ain’t gonna cut it! 😁

WONDERFUL news! May it never be any day :-)

(Nothing wrong with being a Demonland tragic - it's a family here (dysfunctional sometimes yeah, but in the best possible way).

All the best, incredibly happy for you!

Well Done WCW, as u know, Tragics like us always will find solace and brevity in the Demonland heartland! We all share different Views but, hopefully at the end of the day, when things turn potentially sour, people in Demonland can offer strong support!

Good Luck P.F

Sincerely, thank you. 💕

I’ve been incredibly humbled by the well wishes both public and in PMs from some amazing people on DL. Seriously, I have been so moved by some of the sentiments to the point of being legit lost for words (a rarity for me).

I love the Dees with all my heart and always will and Demonland has shown me that there’s nothing wrong with being borderline obsessed with our club. Discovering DL also signalled a welcome end to barracking for Melbourne on my own.
So thank you everyone! I love you guys 💖😘 (and by guys of course I mean gals too).

There is something wrong with being  borderline obsessed with the dees.

It's too half hearted.

Fully obsessed is the go.

Apologies if this has been mentioned. The MCG car park was closed last night and there was no public announcement by the club or AFL although I believe the MCC may have advised it’s members.

Traffic was awful, how many bums on seats this cost we’ll never know but I’d assume several thousand would not have found anywhere nearby to park!

That’s poor form

Trams on Wellington Parade we’re terrible as well, I’m not sure if it was covid related to staff shortages or they just didn’t cater for getting ~60k people getting home.Seeing families with kids who made the effort being stuck for some to wait and then having to struggle to get them into packed trams was not enjoyable.

Trains no better. How hard is it to schedule more bloody transport on a big event night!

Very impressed by our performance last night.

Not only with four members of the backline absent but also at the demonstrated skill level.

For anyone who wants to see a "rusty" team have a look at our Round 1 performance against Freo last year.

Now if only we could kick a little straighter

I’ll reserve judgment based on potential covid staffing issues, it was a frustrating though but compared to others it was a pleasant stroll deep into the city for a tram.

There were also no trains running on the Craigieburn line only buses to North Melbourne. Wouldn't have impacted too many Melbourne supporters but a lot of Doggies live out this way.

Sorry Dr G but how would they get from North to Craigie or am I missing something?

Sorry I meant there were trains from North Melbourne to the City but no trains between North Melbourne and Craigieburn, only buses.

I was looking at it heading in so thinking only buses to NM FROM Craigieburn.

Platforms 9 & 10 at Richmond station (lines to Belgrave, Lilydale, Alamein and Glen Waverley) were so full after the game people couldn't actually get onto the platform. The trains all showed up at once, on one platform, whilst the other platform was empty.

Metro has always struggled with clearing passengers after big football games. It shouldn't be as hard as it seems to be for them.

Tried to get home on a tram. Single carriages packed, had to wait for three before there was room to get on. Also noticed a lot of mum's grab the kids and leave at the ten minute mark of the last quarter. Unhappy kids being told you have school tomorrow.

The ‘one beer only’ is non-negotiable. Bad things happen when I drink too much. The last time I overindulged I was one mouse click away from gifting my life savings to a Nigerian Prince. Phew, dodged a bullet that time. However I’m not sure but I think we’re now married. JK. But yeah, one’s plenty for this lassie. 👍🏽

'Just one beer/drink' is one of the most oft told lies in English or any other language.... just sayin

Brutal. And seeing the other experiences… again I assume covid related staff shortages but just so chit for our round 1 after a flag.

I know that as it was our home game we want last night to have been a commercial success all round, but I honestly hope the ratings were soft and Channel 7 and the AFL realise Wednesday night games are a [censored] idea. We were robbed of at least 5,000-10,000 people who maybe could have gone on a Thursday night and another 5,000-10,000 who would have gone on a Friday night.

I loved that it was a 'Home' game, yes I would have like 80+, and you're probably right on the fixturing/numbers - but flip side is, we got 100% media focus. But still listening to the crowd on the broadcast, it was absolutely our home game, sounded like a WC match on the broadcast. Thought the Dogs supporters were weak for not turning up. I also don't mind the 10 day break between games with our current injuries.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
