30-17 and they still can't get within 4 goals.

Good luck for the season dogs you might need to up the payments to the umps or practise the ducking a bit more.

So this is what it feels to be a good team, beat maybe the 2nd best side while playing mediocre

Considering our backline issues, patchy kicking and terrible umpiring, this is a really good win!

How good is winning in Round 1?

Big year ahead!

Best game I have seen from Joel Smith, thought he was good.

Some poor finishing, but a good win with Tracc leading the way, quite a few cobwebs but overall a pleasing start to season with a depleted backline.

Salem is a huge worry, can’t replace his class.

Very solid, gotta love those grinding wins. Gave them very little after their run in the second. Still, we need to be able to stop those runs. If we can arrest the runs it will be very scary for our opponents.

Back at the top of the ladder where we belong!

I was swearing when I saw Lever out, then Salem knee injury is my biggest takeaway. Four GF starting defenders out is not making me happy, I like to have depth not use it....

From people watching how was Tomlinson?

The free kicks are going to cause a lot of noise, as will the umpiring in general.

How good is it to win after being under the pump, the will to win is huge, no side will feel safe. Will be watching tonight my time.

Perfect start

Salem was a big loss, but Bedford came on and showed plenty.

Still hasn't sunk it that we are reigning premiers with the best [censored] player in the league. By a long shot.

Weightman can go and take a long walk off a short pier.

Hey Rod, have you heard anything else RE. Salo. He didn't have his knee iced in the last quarter. Uncertain if this is a good thing, but he seemed pretty chipper.

Fantastic first up win.

Dogs wanted to win badly.... Umps wanted Dogs to win badly.. (only half joking)

Bailey Smith Frees for = 5   Frees against = 1

Clayton Oliver frees for =  0   Frees against = 7.    7 !!!????

3 of our first-string backs out and lost another (who is also our best kick out of the backline) early. Didnt just hang on but made it into a solid win in the end.

I didnt see or hear a second of the game so this is one replay i look forward to.

Guess we are on top of the ladder again ?

Take that any day of the week.

The self-belief in the team is palpable. Remarkable to see, mentally they're just so strong (collectively).

Sorry, don’t know

Good to see TMAC taking some marks down back in the later parts of the game. Also good to see he still kicks flat punts into the back of players heads...

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
