It was a Jake Niall statement based on practically nothing. Poor form for a journo I regard. Having said that he tips us to go back to back. And if we don't get another flag we'll be seen as underachievers. (like the Bombers in 2000 IMO)

Who would have thought the Dees being in this conversation a few years ago.

Caro on the other hand was excellent in her views on the GF replay and the Dees as a team. Said nothing was going to stop the Dees in the GF and the Dogs even now are a long way behind MFC. She admitted the Tiges got cocky after 2017, and what's wrong with that anyway?

I just listened to this and Niall is off his tree.

Having a go at Gawn for saying “this is just the beginning” straight after the Grand Final.  He was the winning captain in a grand final, he can say what he likes!

Classic case of people (journalists) rating future success ahead of current success.

When friends and acquaintances have spoken to me about the Premiership and I tell them I just really want to be there to see one they say we're a good team and will win a few and be up there for a long time. My mind always seems to wander back to the Bombers of 2000. After the disappointment of 1999 they only dropped 1 game for the season and people thought that would kick off a dynasty. They've barely won a final since then. In fact today marks day 6,400 since they won a final.

My MFCSS has warped into an inadequacy that we won't be able to back it up and perform on the big stage.

Jake Nial is a complete mess.

This is the same guy that predicted Simon Goodwin to be the first coach sacked.

He's now salty that he got it all wrong.

Nothing wrong with being cocky as long as you can back it up

I didn't like Caro's criticism of Kate Roffey's reference to our culture in her speech. I though her speech overall was excellent

I guess this is the sort of guff people come up with when you're premiers

I didn't like her insinuation either that many of the coaches and people from other clubs would have frowned upon what was said by Kate. i heard snippets from her speech and thought it was fantastic. I think Kate is very well spoken and her passion shines through. Nothing arrogant about anything I ever hear her say.

Seems like Caro was making something out of nothing.

Agreed, and with the risk of sounding like  an ultra-sensitive supporter I can’t help but think that if the president of any other club had said it then there would be no comment from the media.

It’s the same with the Freed From Desire debacle, if it was any other club the whole narrative would have been how the Bulldogs over-celebrated the preliminary final win.

Might be partly in reference to Oliver and Trac over celebrating goals against a midfield depleted North in practice match week 1.

Who cares, as long as Clarry signs a long term contract & we go back to back😃

All footy journos are the same. They pick the best team to slide, one of the close contenders to win it and the middle and bottom teams to stay where they are.

Jake predicted we would finish 9th in 2021. Literally where we finished in 2020. Brilliant insight. His opinion is worth less than that of us random posters on here - bias be damned.

Not a single journo picked us to rise even to top 6 in 2021, which shows how little attention they pay to the details - it was all there to see if they looked closely enough, irrespective of the luck we had with injuries. The clairvoyants are now saying Carlton to rise and Hawthorn to fall - literally a continuation of JLT form. Oh how easy a job it must be.

Don't get me wrong - I agree on Carlton but for different reasons - no pundit or journo has spoken about their vastly improved body language & team unity that was on show against us. There was a lot of connection, support & selflessness. It wasn't until we added these elements that the other pieces clicked. They'll do Ok.

I don't have the time to watch all the teams that closely & only watched Carlton because they were playing us. Other teams may be similarly poised.

But the journos are paid to watch it & still not one can really nail some out of the box predictions.

It’s her modus operandi. She’s gotten very accomplished at it.

The boys talked the talk last year from pretty early on and then proceeded to walk the walk.
They've talked the talk again and now it's time to walk the walk ... Again.

I remember Nietas speech after losing the GF in 2000.
Said he "Hooped we'd be able to get back here one day for another crack" or something similar.
Was thinking at the time ... "No, thats not what I want to hear."
I wanna hear we'll be back next year and win this forken thing.

I prefer the noise coming from the club now than then.

Day nights football show,

none of them think much of Melbourne

stuff em !! Go Dees. B2B in 22

Thanks for your great work on this site, but Gee I think you need a good lie down before tomorrow night just to help you cope with the certain drama of the evening, and the next 26 weeks.

The difference was one of the greatest teams ever in the Lions was waiting to explode in 2001. There are no such teams for us to worry about, or even close. I don’t reckon it will be smooth sailing but we will make a couple of GFs over the next 5 years for sure

Niall kept on saying we were cocky and he liked it. It was getting weird in there.

I honestly like that podcast but they don’t know what to do out of season. Only Caro is comfortable in that sphere. The other journos are trying out their ‘takes’ but their knowledge of teams is a mile wide and an inch deep.

You can hear them scraping the bottom of the barrel of their knowledge - it is defeaning.

The media likes to get their populist we told you so narratives prepared before something happens. They would like to print headlines in Thursdays news like ‘Bulldogs get revenge over arrogant and cocky Demons’ or ‘Demons victims of their own Hubris.’

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
