GAMEDAY: AFLW Rd 10 vs Carlton

First has never been the priority. Securing second by grinding out a win after a Perth trip is the aim. It’s going to take a huge effort from here in to the wind.

Harris has been caught in between deep and up the ground. They need to get her back in position.

Would like to see Kate Hore have a run on the ball to get in to the game.

Now we will see what they are made of. Against the breeze and we have been playing poorly.

Mick needs to send the message that when you switch you got to keep going to space. We kill our forwards by double switching

Way too much pace on the ball right now. Need to slow it right down

Umpiring is atrocious

McNamara is playing her worst ever game, completely awful

There is not a big breeze,

get it done Demons. No excuses. Blues going harder

Caught holding defensively twice. Not sharp at all. Really need some composure now

Why did no one push it through for a behind????

The lack of knowledge of the ladder and the implications of the commentators is pretty poor. If we lost we could have slipped to third which is huge

I was sure Vescio was going to win it. Deserved to lose tbh but we got there. Just

So frustrating watching our women try to beat one more opponent before kicking. Far too often they get caught or the kick is smothered. Lucky to get the win in the end.

Well what a heart stopper hung on by a fingernail. Carlton certainly applied a lot of heat and tackled ferociously. Well done girls.!!

If Carlton win tonight, it's 4 in a row for them. They're one of the form teams in the comp, and I'm glad the girls were able to get the win, even if it wasn't the big win we all hoped for to give us the best chance.

Never in doubt

Awful composure.

The Mithen kick with 2 minutes left was inexcusable. Ball use the entire last quarter was crazy.

But coming back from Perth is tough, even if you win by 80.

Hopefully the week off fixes Purcell up and Zanker too. The big body mids are just vital for us to be any chance.

Jonsey Just called Vescio a she. Assume he’ll be cancelled by Monday

Very lucky.  Succumbed to Carlton’s pressure,  but managed to survive (just) at the ‘death’.  ‘Bath water’? /  coming off a long road trip? Who knows? ……. but performances like that will not cut it in finals!

One of his co-commentators called Vescio a they and a she in the same sentence.
I have an idea what that says about the whole situation, but I can't say it because I'll get cancelled.

Terrible performance and pretty difficult to argue that the better team won.

Perhaps the trip to Perth didn't help but, with so much at stake, we looked incredibly half hearted, indecisive and overwhelmed.

Hopefully they can take the week off to rest up, refocus and bring a much better performance in the preliminary final.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
