If not us, then..?

If not us, then..

1. Who do you think will win the flag?

2. Who would you like to see win the flag?

With the season just around the corner I thought this topic might be an interesting discussion point. Of course all of our desires would be to see us go back to back and hold up that cup for the 14th time at the rightful heartland of our great club and game. Having said that, I am interested to see where peoples thoughts are should we not be featured in the Grand Final.

I personally think Brisbane will be the one most likely (watch them fall off a cliff this year now), while I have a soft spot for St Kilda due to many of mates being long suffering supporters, something we can all relate to, and would prefer them over any other team to win.

I never like to see anyone else win the flag. I just have sides who I would prefer not to win.

Perhaps I should re-phrase the question. Which team is at the bottom of your list of least preferred to win?

Brisbane, based on 2021 Finals only.

Lions were most affected by key players injuries when they played the Dees and can be better (and assuming Daniher does something....  anything) and Dees seemed to have to work harder to get on top.

Whereas I think the Cats and Dogs were near full strength (except for Tom Stewart) and were comprehensively outplayed.

Cats made no major list changes, no ruckmen and same senior coach  - thus they are on a  repeat cycle for 2022.  Dogs scarring is unknown but are beatable again and haven't improved defence.

Thus Lions are my big threat. Good defence and attack and well-coached.

Tiges are too good to miss the 8 again but a few ageing stars now. And Dees have the Dusty secret weapon (Hibbered theory)

1. GW$ - they have an incredibly talented list that, arguably, has copped injuries and suspensions at the worst possible times

2. Pear - the likes of Robbie Gray and Travis Boak are running out of runway to claim a premiership, and the former is probably my favourite non-Demon in the AFL

Brisbane, preference St.Kilda, same reasons as above, a lot of long suffering mates.

GWS definitely a threat this year. Perhaps not this year but Freo are going about building their list quite nicely as well, one to watch in the next 2-3 years.

Don't really like any other team winning the flag but my thoughts are this:

Most likely - Brisbane, because they are the most complete side other than us.

Who would I like to see - GWS, because I don't really care if they win or not and it doesn't really affect us in Melbourne.

Whoever has got the nicest Coach, and no one else has except us.

Tied for last: Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond, Hawthorn, St Kilda, West Coast, Bulldogs.

Tide for second last: Port, Norf, Sydney, Freo, Geelong, Lions, Crows.

Shrug: Giants, Suns.

Who I think will win if not us: Brisbane, GWS or Dogs

Who I would be happy to see win (but it’ll never happen): Freo or Saints

Team I prefer to poke my eyes out over seeing win: Geelong

What a hideous decision to make.
Soft spot for the Aints…No way. let them suffer in the wilderness for a few more decades.
they were a Nightclub back in the 80’s

I really have no one else I want to win the Flag

Live is too short. I want to see at least 4 in a row

Obviously don't live in Adelaide WWSW?

I don't want Collingwood, Essendon or Carlton winning. Why? Because they're the only ones ahead of us on the ladder of "Total Premierships Won".

Not that I need a reason to include Collingwood on that list.

My soft spot is St Kilda.

If we made the granny then I would have no qualm if we lost to St Kilda this year, there fans have suffered more than enough and I dont mind Brett Ratten.

2nd choice Brisbane

....

...

18th choice Bombers.

Western Bulldogs and Brisbane have the next best lists after ours, I'd be surprised if anyone else won it outside of those 3. That being said some team always comes from the clouds (or in our case the fiery depths of hell)

Couldn’t bear losing GF to anyone.
we have something like an incredible 13-6 GF record.

The Shame would be awful….

GWS or Brisbane

GWS

1. Brisbane. Most talented list in the afl, only a question of whether their best mids can get it done. But I expect McCluggage, Bailey and Rayner start to either take over or at least really bolster Neale and Zorko.

2. Dogs.

3. GWS standout from the pack with incredible midfield depth and enough forward/back talent to form a good side if they get it right

4. Geel, Port and Rich can’t be written off but the list of clubs that could ‘do a Melbourne’ range from: Sydney, St Kilda, Ess, Carlton and maybe even Freo.

5. West Coast, Adelaide, Hawks, North and Gold Coast would surprise me.

As always, interstate clubs are much preferred than any other Victorian one!

GWS midfield:

Kelly - Whitfield - Taranto - Green - Hopper - Ward - Coniglio

If their talls stand up - Himmelberg, Hogan and Ricardo - they should be top 4 easy and my tip to lose the Granny against us

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.

Kozzy Pickett was the man of the match last week and has a vote lead over backup ruck Max Heath who didn't play this week and 5 votes over former Saint Jack Steele. Who gets the votes in this weeks shortened match win over the Tigers? Your votes please. 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1.

It's Game Day and the 2026 AFL Premiership season is almost upon us as the Demons take to the field for their final practice match before the first ball is kicked in anger in 16 days time. What are you expecting to see from the Dees today as they take on the Tigers at Mars Stadium in Ballarat?
