Really looking forward to seeing what the two Demon debutants can bring to the team.  With such a short AFLW season, a win is very important, and this game presents as a great opportunity to stamp our credentials as genuine contenders.  Go Dees.

Best of luck to the two girls on debut. A win in enemy territory will really make a statement, and I think we're good for it.

Must be hard for the girls playing Monday night in Brisbane. Most would have full time jobs. Not sure what the AFL is thinking

The season heats up from here. No more soft opponents (other than Carlton in Rd 10)

Tough game. Their midweek game v the Suns was a training drill so i don't expect the 4 day turnaround to be too much of a factor tonight

We'll need to play to our maximum to win. Need big games from the midfield group in particular. And I would like to see us bring Bannon into the game more. She has devastating leg speed. Find out how tired the Lions actually are

Heart says Dees, head says Lions

Massive game tonight. We probably need to win 2 of next 3 to finish top 4, and possibly all 3 to finish top 2, given our (relatively) poor percentage.

Purcell was a great get for the team, and I am looking forward to her debut.

I agree that we need to find a way to bring the likes of Bannan, Hore and Zanker into the game, particularly inside forward 50, as they are such tough match ups for most teams.

A little surprised we're going in as favourites given we're on the road against a good side (albeit one that hasn't beaten anyone of quality this year)

I'm nervous!  Brisbane are good on every line and when they're on, they're on.

A win would be massive, a loss probably means we're just making up the numbers. Regardless of the outcome, I hope we can show our best, which we simply haven't yet this season. A good start is on top of my wish list.

Best of luck to Purcell and Gillard for their first games as Demons.

Hard to call. Lions are good but they have just scraped home against poor sides

i reckon we will get up

crows, Freo and North are the worry

I don't trust our ability to fly in fly out, so I'm expecting some underwhelming performances from the girls tonight. Hope I'm wrong.

Need to play 4 qtrs.
Which has proved to be a struggle.

They looked really good in their last game albeit against mediocre opponents. But much better than us against Gold Coast a week or so before.

I’ve had to turn off. The passage with about 9minutes left on the clock sums up where the womens game is at. Poorly officiated garbage. It’s like watching an entirely different game

The amount of throws that go unwhistled in AFLW is a joke

Just saw 5 in a row by the Lions. Umps not even pretending to be balanced.

We look like the team coming off a 4 day break

Fly in fly out is worse than a 4 day break for amateurs imo.

Lions player way inside the protected area. Play on. Total joke.

There's some strange umpiring here

We are simply not anywhere near skilled enough to execute the game plan the coach has asked them to play to. It relies on pinpoint kicking and chipping away. The Lions kicking is far more accurate and they are light years ahead of our girls.

They’re making us look extremely slow.

Libby Birch can’t handball. Less writing in the paper, more basic skills please

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
