Hibbert,

The first siting of Hibbert for the season.  Are we on a roll or what?

C'mon 'Landers, show some respect, these are our first premiership players in 57 years, at least spell their name correctly.

Sighting?  Citing?  Either way, it's disrespectful to Michael Hobbit.

I think they will try Rivers on the wing this year and releasing Brayshaw back to the midfield so Smith, Smith and Hunt may play as a defender in his place.

Places in the team will now be on form not a given.

Unless Rivers has a huge preseason I doubt we’ll see him on the wing any time soon. And Brayshaw’s lack of defensive pressure and change of direction has just about sealed his midfield fate unless that drastically changes. Without a heap of injuries you’d be releasing him to Casey

Im predicting Hibbered will play about 5 -10 games this year and will lose his spot in the 22 to a younger player. He will get a one year extension. Hoping that he can get to 100 games for the club. Currently on 89 and 173 in total.

Think Tomlinson or Hunt could take Hibberd's spot. Depends on what we're after.  Tomlinson perhaps has the better defensive skills but Hunt has that unique dash and chasing ability. Both played well last season. Assume they all have the same starting position come round one.

Would love Bowey to be the one to mind the opposition's small forward. Will need to keep working on his defensive attributes.

The only problem I see with Bowey is that, unlike Hunt, he rarely kicks long or runs the ball out of defence. Yes, he passes accurately to the next guy, but it takes longer to clear the defensive area. And sometimes there’s a big advantage to our forwards in getting the ball quickly into attack. Maybe he can add more kicking depth and run to his game next season.

Bowey if fit, plays as the small distributing back. Hunt and Hibberd are vying for the flank. I favour Hunt being younger, taller and quicker, as well as a better mark. I still think D. Smyth is a chance too.

I still can’t believe I am discussing team spots as the reigning premier. Added to that we have a deep list and a young profile. Hopefully more good times to come for the MFC.

Hunt for Hibberd in 2022 😎

Correct, it's Hunt v Hibberd

It gets worse,  @Jontee.  You've just been Hibbered!

I have never seen a player with cleaner hands and better decision making with less than 10 games under their belt. This kid is next level. Anyone can bomb it long, players like Bowey are so hard to find.

I didn’t say I wanted a player who just bombed it long. I said I would like Bowey to ADD trunk and long kicking sometimes. It isn’t either/or.

I thought Hibberd would be competing with Smith if fit. Although, I guess the opposition would also impact selection.

Brayshaw’s lack of defensive pressure was previously an issue, but to bring it up after 2021 is just laughable!

The sad thing is that I double checked to make sure I used a 'e' instead of an 'a'

The year in which he played almost exclusively on the wing?

Gus had a very good year but there were still plenty of examples of him getting caught flat footed in congestion. The wingers role off the back of stoppages and then on the outside/defensive side of play allowed him to see the game unfold and react. Nothing about his 2021 season suggested he should be moving back on ball any time soon.

The surname that keeps on giving.....I havent seen that one before....

Is that like In Hibbered, as in Held Back at Casey.....

Bowey’s dink kick to Gus in the 3rd, for his goal, was just superb.  For a kid to do that in a GF, while  under pressure, in his 8th game,  is just unbelievable.

Another JT success.

PS: Can’t wait to see Laurie.

A rare glut of riches.
Tomlinson is in the mix too - though May Lever Petty and Tomo could be regarded as too tall, all have surprising pace and ground skills.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
