I was at the Best and Fairest on Friday night. I have received a text from the Vic Dept of Health saying I may have been exposed to Covid 19 at the event. I was wondering ifeverybody at the event has got this text and have to get a test and isolate until a negative result is given. I wonder if this impacts on players ,coaches etc . On the other hand it maybe that I was close ,ie only a table or two away, that I have become a close contact.

I got a call to say my mother was taken to hospital and most likely would not be allowed to fly as planned from Sunshine Coast to Sydney. So change of plans we would fly to her. Needing a Covid test to get into Qld we went to get a Covid test yesterday. Was in a queue from 6pm till 10pm closing time and didn’t make the end of the queue. Lined up again from 7am this morning and eventually got my test done at 9.30am.  Got home to receive a message that the hospital was going to release her and allow her to fly after all. So 6.5 hours of queuing time I’ll never get back.

Where did you get tested?

I wonder if the guy who went to Perth was there?

But, seriously, best of health to all.

He snuck in

My whole family were there. Tried two testing centres today and both times got to almost the end of the queue and was told they were closing (two hours early). Will try again at 7am tomorrow morning. Why are the testing centres not staying open till later knowing that there would be an influx of families wanting to travel interstate.

Tested at the Showgrounds. Feeling good. Hoping for the best. With 1500 attending this was inevitable. Still a great night.

I did a rapid antigen test when I got home from work. It came up negative.
I’ll get a proper test done tomorrow but these things are meant to be pretty accurate.

Unsuccessfully at Castle Hill last night, and west Pennant Hills this morning.

If you live in NSW I guess you will always be in that predicament

Out of interest but were supporters allowed to mix with players at the B&F?

to my knowledge , no ,players were separated from  the fans , etc

I saw on facebook a number of photos of players with supporters taken at the B&F so the players would be at risk.

Went to the Best and Fairest

Got the text mid afternoon and then was tested at Chadstone

Arrived at 4pm, finished at 6pm

Testing only 1 car at a time

No wonder it took so long

FYI The website advised wait time was meant to be 60 minutes

I appreciate it’s frustrating for people who attended the event to go and get tested, but I really don’t understand criticism aimed at the workers at these facilities for the speed at which they are working, or them wanting to leave work at an appropriate time. They are most likely exhausted, and working long shifts. We are 2 years into a pandemic, and it’s pretty obvious we’ve got a long road ahead of us.

Lets not forget that what is stressful for you today has been a lot of these health care workers entire lives for 2 years. They are owed our kindness and appreciation.

While that's true surely they can have a cutoff so people don't waste time waiting in line if they're going to shut up shop before they finish testing everyone there

They said at the start players not allowed to socialise with punters, and they were in separate areas pre function. I certainly didn’t get near any players or staff, but unsure if others did.
In a queue now in town. Been here nearly 2 hours and still at least 45 mins away from the entrance.

Free rapid antigen tests, widely available at chemists and a change to the Queensland Queen’s entry requirements, will slash the testing queues dramatically.

PS. Her latest offering that Queensland hospitals should only be for Queenslanders, is just another moronic bit of dribble from her mouth.

Yes they made specific mention a few times that players were not allowed to mingle with supporters at the event.

What's the bet the players all went out after and mingled with the general public for post drinks.

Given the rate of infection now and that they are asking people to get tested so late in the days they need to allocated days where certain sites are either open 24hrs on certain days, or simply after hours (open until say 11pm). My mum had her booster shot booked for Monday, got told Sunday at 6pm to get tested because she was classified as a close contact to someone at a cafe 2 days prior. Ran around like a headless chook trying to get to a testing centre only to be 3 cars from the end of the line before they called it quits. She went first thing Monday, rescheduled her booster for the following afternoon, but didn't receive a negative result until Tuesday evening. She had to re-reschedule her booster for Wednesday morning and drove on to Canberra so they can get to Sydney to be with my brother and his wife for Christmas.

I'm sick of our governments making these rules and regulations, without the infrastructure to assist people in completing them, not to mention making the rules up with little to no warning.

That stress (all for a negative test which we expected because we also bought a home kit to try to calm her that told her she was negative) was totally unreasonable and avoidable if they provide the opportunities for people to get tested out of normal hours. She was in tears at stages because she was worried she'd miss Christmas. She's 73 and doesn't need this **** (not to mention the added stress it gives to everyone else).

As for everyone at the B&F, hope you all get the good news of negative results.

EDIT: (Apologies for the rant!)

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
